<p>Responsible to: Building Principal and Director of Special Education</p> <p>Terms of Employment: This position will follow the teacher calendar 183 days in accordance with the Unit A contract with eight additional days beyond the school year. Salary/Hourly Rate will be in accordance with the Unit A contract. Evaluations to be completed by the Principal/Head of School and Director of Special Education.</p> <p>Job Description: The Public Schools of Brookline seek a qualified Special Education Team Facilitator (ETF) to manage all aspects of the special education process, including Child Find activities, Pre-referral, Referrals and Evaluations, Eligibility Determination, IEP Development, and Placement.</p> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree from an accredited college or university with evidence of coursework in the areas of special education, counseling/psychology, administration, supervision and evaluation </li><li>Massachusetts DESE special education certification and licensure required </li><li>Massachusetts DESE special education administrative licensure preferred </li><li>Strong knowledge of special education laws and regulations required </li><li>Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required </li><li>QBS/SafetyCare Specialist and/or Trainer certification preferred </li><li>Minimum of six (6) years' experience in special education preferred </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/guardians, community, and others in the delivery of effective services </li><li>Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills, enabling information sharing and the development of trusting relationships with parents/guardians, and staff. </li></ul> <p>Essential Responsibilities:</p> <p>Pre-Referral</p> <ul> <li>Collaborates and works across all sectors to support enhanced non-categorical, multi-tiered services and supports for all students </li><li>Advocates for culturally responsive practices based on referral data </li></ul> <p>Special Education</p> <ul> <li>Understands and applies federal, state, and local laws, policies, regulations, and procedures and protocols </li><li>Assists the Principal/Head of School and Director of Special Education in carrying out all mandates as outlined by the Federal IDEA and as defined under Chapter 766 of the Massachusetts General Laws. </li><li>Serves as the Team Meeting Chairperson for IEP meetings, ensuring the implementation of special education regulations and mandates </li><li>Ensure that all timelines in the IEP process are met, including but not limited to chairing IEP meetings, developing IEPs and progress reports, completing evaluations and reevaluations. </li><li>Assists the Director of Special Education and the school principal in customizing the best combination of educational programs and services, for each school-age child with disabilities </li><li>Assists with the planning and coordination of special education services beyond the school day and school year </li><li>Communicate and consult with parents, administrators and other professionals on students' academic, social and behavioral progress. </li><li>Offer special education strategies and techniques during instruction to improve student skills (executive functioning, reading, math, written expression, self advocacy, etc.) </li><li>Support the completion of formal assessments as part of the special education regulatory process as needed </li></ul> <p>Management</p> <ul> <li>Serves as building based department head for special education and related services staff. </li><li>Maintain accurate and complete student records for assigned students as required by laws, district policies and administrative procedures. </li><li>Coordinates the transitions of students from preschool, elementary, middle, and high school programs </li><li>Prepares for and participates in Tiered Focused Monitoring Reviews as required </li><li>Support Medicaid procedures as needed to ensure timely documentation and accurate logging of services </li><li>Facilitates parent/guardian observations of special education programs as needed </li><li>Facilitates communication and working relationships with parents, outside agencies and community resources </li></ul> <p>Professional Learning</p> <ul> <li>Assists in the coordination and and provision of staff development and workshops/trainings regarding special education issues </li><li>Attends state and regional meetings and participates actively in professional organizations </li></ul> <p>Other</p> <ul> <li>Complies with all policies and procedures for the Public Schools of Brookline </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent of Student Services, Director of Special Education and/or Principal/head of School </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <ul> <li>All employees must be vaccinated and maintain full vaccination as a condition </li></ul> <p>of employment or work as an on-site vendor/contractor, unless they receive approval for a documented medical or religious exemption in accordance with relevant state and/or federal law.
