<p>This is unskilled, limited semi-skilled, and semi-skilled manual work requiring the application of skills and knowledge above the basic laboring level serving the City's Neighborhood Team (N-Team) in providing community improvements and assisting qualified homeowners with various home repairs addressing City Code violations, including, but not limited to, disabled accessibility improvements, carpentry, painting, plumbing, roof patching, masonry work, debris removal and yard maintenance. Work involves driving a motor vehicle, using the required standard hand/power tools, small turf/landscaping equipment, various construction equipment to perform tasks of a manual nature, and other related work. An employee in this class must be able to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions and perform required work above ground level using extension ladders up to 32'. An employee in this class may also act as lead worker for intermittent periods but does not exercise formal supervision over other employees. Work is performed under close supervision and in accordance with specific instructions, including defined procedures and schedules. Work is reviewed while in progress, upon completion and through conversation. Employees in this position are expected to be able to perform any and all work tasks and comply with any work schedules, attendance, or duty requirements which may be established by City or department rules, or applicable union contracts.</p> <p>Salary: $17.64 - $23.72 Hourly</p> <p>Close Date: 05-14-2026 (11:59 PM)</p> <p>To Qualify</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:</p> <ul> <li>Possess and maintain a valid Driver License. </li><li>Have experience in construction trades such as painting, rough/finish carpentry, plumbing repair, roof repair, and/or concrete/masonry construction. </li><li>Be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions. </li><li>Be able to, daily, perform heavy manual labor including frequently lifting and handling materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. </li><li>Acknowledge this position is designated Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into this position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during and after a declared emergency and/or disaster. </li></ul> <p>Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:</p> <ul> <li>Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency. </li><li>Have advanced technical skills and knowledge in residential painting, including use of sprayers, specialized brushes and appropriate types of paint for different surfaces such as trim, doors, or walls. </li><li>Have advanced rough carpentry skills. </li><li>Have advanced skill in the operation of various hand and power tools. </li><li>Have an OSHA Construction Safety training certificate. </li><li>Have attended, or preferably completed, a job training program related to construction, such as Job Corps, Youth Build, or a Pinellas Technical College program. </li><li>Have experience in the operation of small turf maintenance and landscape equipment. </li><li>Able to perform required work using extension ladders and/or construction staging. </li><li>Able to perform required work on roofs. </li></ul> <p>RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT</p> <p>The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment, or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg.
