<p>Regular Schedule: 39 hours per week</p> <p>A Non-Merit vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works and Transportation, Bureau of Sanitation and Solid Waste Management.</p> <p>Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.</p> <p>A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.</p> <p>Current and future vacancies occurring within this classification may be filled from the list of eligible applicants.</p> <p>All interested candidates must apply at this time.</p> <p>List all promotions and changes in job duties due toreclassification as separate work experience on your application. Applicants must include the dates of the promotions and reclassifications.</p> <p>Note: Failure to complete all fields of the "Work Experience" section of the application will result in your application not being considered. A resume will not be considered in determining your qualifications for a position. Applicants selected for an interview may provide a resume at that time.</p> <p>Examples of Duties</p> <ul> <li>Performs preventive and skilled diagnostic repair and maintenance work on production equipment and other equipment as required. </li><li>Installs, repairs, rebuilds and maintains mechanical equipment. </li><li>Installs, tests, and replaces electrical components. </li><li>Ensures that the installation and repair of equipment complies with agency policy and local codes and regulations. </li><li>Replaces units or parts, such as gears, bearings, and filters. </li><li>Tests newly-installed and pre-existing mechanical equipment. </li><li>Orders replacement parts forequipment. </li><li>Identifies and confirms time frame for completion of repairs. </li><li>Assists managers with planning and scheduling of maintenance projects. </li><li>Communicates the necessity for proper and timely maintenance of all equipment to operators and management staff. </li><li>Assists management staff in the training of staff in proper equipment maintenance techniques. </li><li>Works with management and other maintenance staff to develop and implement a preventative maintenance program for mechanical equipment and vehicles. </li><li>Operates county vehicles. </li></ul> <p>Examples Of Other Duties</p> <ul> <li>Performs related duties as required. </li></ul> <p>NOTE: The duties and responsibilities listed above are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for all positions in this classification. Each position in this classification may not be required to perform all of the duties listed.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Must possess a diploma from an accredited high school or its equivalent.</p> <p>Plus</p> <p>at least 5 years' experience installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment.</p> <p>Related vocational education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to 3 years for the required experience.</p> <p>Supervisory Requirements</p> <p>May include responsibility for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of managed staff, interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, delegating, and directing work; evaluating performance; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <p>Knowledge of electrical installation, maintenance and repair.</p> <p>Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and the ability to follow oral and written instructions.</p> <p>Licenses and Certificates</p> <p>Possession of a valid license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.</p> <p>Possession of a valid driver's license meeting the requirements of Maryland law and Baltimore County Government policies.</p> <p>Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain forklift certification.</p> <p>Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain a Certified DOT certification.</p> <p>Proof of Licenses and Certifications</p> <p>Proof of licenses and certifications, must be submitted with each application.</p> <p>EXAMINATION PROCEDURE</p> <p>Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.</p> <p>Conditions of Employment</p> <p>Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be required to work overtime with little or no advance notice.</p> <p>Must maintain all licenses and certifications throughout employment.</p> <p>Physical and Environmental Conditions</p> <p>The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including climbing, bending, stooping, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of vehicles, tools, and equipment. This position requires the agility to frequently go up and down stairs and climb on and off of equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Some work requires exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, mud, ice, and airborne particles, including dust.</p> <p>Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation</p> <p>Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to a criminal background, education certification and fingerprint checks.</p>
