<p>For more than 150 years, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) has been a leader in educating the world's most influential artists, designers and scholars. Located in downtown Chicago with a fine arts graduate program consistently ranking among the top four graduate fine arts programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, SAIC provides an interdisciplinary approach to art and design as well as world-class resources, including the Art Institute of Chicago Museum, on-campus galleries and state-of-the-art facilities. SAIC's undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate students have the freedom to take risks and create the bold ideas that transform Chicago and the world-as seen through notable alumni and faculty such as Michelle Grabner, David Sedaris, Elizabeth Murray, Richard Hunt, Georgia O'Keeffe, Cynthia Rowley, Nick Cave, and LeRoy Neiman.</p> <p>POSITION SUMMARY:</p> <p>In accordance with the Disability and Learning Resource Center's mission, the temporary Disability Specialist will provide services to SAIC students with disabilities. The position is responsible for determining eligibility, identifying access and accommodations needs, and developing a plan for the provision of reasonable accommodations for students seeking DLRC services. The position requires frequent interaction with students, parents, faculty and staff.</p> <ul> <li>Hiring Range: $28 - $35 per hour </li><li>Job Classification: Temporary Employee </li><li>Grade Level: 7 </li></ul> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <p>? Engage in the interactive process with students and at times, parents, faculty and staff.</p> <p>? Collect and review students' disability documentation for determining eligibility for accommodations and disability related academic interventions.</p> <p>? Document all interactions with individual students using AIM, the department's electronic record keeping system.</p> <p>? Maintain confidentiality with students' medical and disability information.</p> <p>? Advise students on how accommodations work and ways to self-advocate with instructors.</p> <p>? Offer guidance and support on departmental service issues when needed.</p> <p>? Collaborate with SAIC staff and faculty on disability issues.</p> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED</p> <p>? Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred in disability studies, rehabilitation counseling, special education, psychology, social work, or a related field.</p> <p>? Demonstrated expertise in serving college students with disabilities, with a particular emphasis on psychological disabilities.</p> <p>? In-depth knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.</p> <p>? Familiarity with federal and state disability resources and agencies.</p> <p>EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB</p> <p>? Standard office equipment</p> <p>? Computer and printer</p> <p>? Department management software used to manage student accommodation records and related academic and campus information</p> <p>? Assistive and adaptive software and technology tools</p> <p>?
