<p>In this hybrid role the team member will assume accountability to plan and provide direct professional nursing care for specified patients throughout the entire episode of service delivery as defined by population and unit. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the standards of practice of a professional nurse, CCMC policies & procedures, TJC, and State & federal regulations. Operates general, fluoroscopic and portable radiographic equipment to performing a variety of radiology examinations/procedures on pediatric inpatients/outpatients. Apply prescribed ionizing radiation for the sole purpose of producing diagnostic quality images under the supervision of a Physician.</p> <p>Clinical Practice- On a daily basis, demonstrates clinical expertise and uses the nursing process to provide safe, appropriate patient care to a defined patient population according to CCMC, CCSG and unit policies and standards.</p> <p>Population Specific - Demonstrates knowledge of the differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.</p> <p>Unit Leadership- Delegates duties and tasks associated with patient care to clinical staff according to hospital policy and their scope of practice. As assigned, contributes to the leadership of the unit by functioning as the Resource Nurse and/or by participating in the professional development of others through preceptor/mentor activities. Supports the unit/department's work productivity and resource management activities.</p> <p>Documentation/Communication- Completes all required documentation in a timely manner, according to CCMC policies and standards; necessary information is effectively communicated to all members of the health care team.</p> <p>Patient/Family Partnership & Education- Partners with child and family in evaluating outcomes. Monitors, trends, and evaluates patient/family responses to treatment. Provides appropriate education to patients and families regarding all aspects of care according to CCMC policies and standards; supports the organization's efforts to patient/family education.</p> <p>CCMC Standards - Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the CCMC Standards.</p> <p>Ability to assess imaging orders for completeness, accuracy and appropriateness. Involves patient/parent/and caregiver in care and exam/procedure. Demonstrates age-related competency and cultural sensitivity. Introduces self and role. Explains procedure thoroughly to patient and or parent before performing the procedure. Performs radiologic exams/procedures. Allows time for and encourages questions. Provides support and effective communications to other members of the department and healthcare team. Works efficiently as a team member. Consults with physicians, RNs and other technologists to provide quality imaging services.</p> <p>Adheres to a culture of safety. Washes hands and sanitizes equipment as directed.</p> <p>Assure timeliness and accuracy when performing requested exams. Performs radiologic exams per</p> <p>protocol. Notifies appropriate ordering provider of recommended changes to ordered exam. Provides support to other modalities within the department as required</p> <p>Performs diagnostic exams for Urgent Care. Ensures all images are of excellent diagnostic quality. Images will include appropriate patient demographics, positioning, technique and laterality markers. In accordance with ALARA principals, patients will be appropriately shielded and imaged to minimize radiation dose.</p> <p>Educates and mentors radiologic skills of new technologists and students. Evaluates clinical and technical proficiency.</p> <p>Ability to successfully utilize information technology systems associated with role. Assures that images and documentation are complete and accurate in the patient medical record. Adheres to all hospital and department policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols.</p> <p>Coordinates equipment service as required.</p> <p>May be called upon to cover evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays.</p> <p>Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors consistent with the organizational standards. Demonstrates exemplary customer service.</p> <p>Practices within the scope of the state of CT Radiologic license and ARRT (R) certification.</p> <p>Performs other related duties as required.</p> <p>Position Specific Role Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Serves as a triage nurse when assigned to prioritize and expedite patient care based upon established protocols. </li><li>Communicates effectively and expeditiously to the members of the healthcare team regarding patient acuity and triage status. </li><li>Initiates emergent care as per CCMC / CCSG protocols. Becomes an active participant in patient/family prevention education and in patient and community healthcare provider follow-up. </li><li>Develops a working understanding of legal implications regarding evidence gathering and handling. </li></ul> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Oversight of the Medical Assistant role. </li></ul> <p>Education and/or Experience Required:</p> <ul> <li>ASN required upon hire. BSN preferred upon hire and required within 3 years of hire. Graduate of Radiologic Technologist program accredited by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. </li></ul> <p>Position Specific Job Education and/or Experience</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in pediatrics and/or emergency setting preferred. </li></ul> <p>License and/or Certification Required:</p> <ul> <li>Current State of Connecticut Registered Nurse licensure required and maintained thereafter. </li><li>Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant is required upon hire. </li><li>Registered as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology; ARRT (R) in good standing. New graduates will be given up to 90 days to become ARRT(R) with documentation of program completion. </li><li>Current State of Connecticut Radiographer License. New graduates will be given 90 days to obtain Connecticut Radiographer License according to Connecticut Statutes 20-74bb(f). </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:</p> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>Theory, principles, techniques and practice of professional nursing. </li><li>State regulations regarding nursing practice. </li><li>Clinical standards of care; documentation and patient record policies and standards. </li><li>Teaching techniques; identification of learning needs and provision of patient/family education. </li><li>Developmental and population-specific patient & family assessment techniques and how to apply to practice. </li><li>Accreditation and certification requirements and standards. </li></ul> <p>Skills:</p> <ul> <li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. </li><li>Basic proficiency in utilization of personal computers in networked Windows-based health care environment to access related software applications; locate, open, edit and print files and information utilized by the unit; and use of Internet as research tool. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Work individually or with teams and/or other organizations within the medical and research community. </li><li>Make clinical and procedural decisions using the nursing process. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality of information. </li><li>Delegate appropriately to ancillary staff. </li><li>Communicate effectively with individuals and groups both orally and in writing. </li><li>Venipuncture and IV skills for pediatric and adult patients. </li></ul>
