<p>Description</p> <p>Are you a reliable and motivated team player with a passion for protecting the environment? We're looking for a Landfill Gas & Leachate Technician to join our team. In this hands-on role, you'll help maintain and monitor important systems that manage landfill gas and leachate, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This is a great opportunity if you enjoy working outdoors, troubleshooting mechanical systems, and being part of a team that plays a key role in waste management and environmental protection.</p> <p>This position is located at our 5500 Church Road, Felda, Florida, location.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>What You'll Do:</p> <ul> <li>Operate and maintain landfill gas recovery and migration control systems. </li><li>Inspect, service, and maintain leachate collection and disposal systems. </li><li>Monitor system performance and collect data to ensure efficiency and regulatory compliance. </li><li>Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on pumps, piping, and other equipment. </li><li>Complete daily logs and keep detailed records of inspections and system performance. </li><li>Assist in the construction and modification of gas and leachate systems. </li><li>Work closely with engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure safety and compliance. </li><li>Follow all safety and environmental rules. </li><li>Be available for emergency maintenance and after-hours calls when needed. </li><li>Perform other tasks as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Education, Experience, Licensing</p> <p>Education:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED (or equivalent). </li></ul> <p>Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Two years of experience in environmental or mechanical systems maintenance. </li><li>Experience operating and maintaining industrial or environmental systems is a plus. </li><li>Strong safety awareness and attention to detail. </li></ul> <p>Licensing:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Class E driver's license with a clean driving record. </li></ul> <p>An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered in place of the stated requirements.</p> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Landfill Gas System Operator Certification or similar certification in landfill gas and leachate system operations. </li><li>HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) training. </li><li>Experience with environmental monitoring equipment (e.g., GEM meters, flow meters, pressure gauges). </li><li>At least 3 years of experience in landfill gas operations, environmental fieldwork, or mechanical/electrical maintenance. </li></ul> <p>Supplemental Information</p> <p>Skills and Knowledge:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of landfill gas and leachate collection systems. </li><li>Familiarity with environmental regulations and air quality standards. </li><li>Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. </li><li>Ability to maintain detailed technical records and reports. </li><li>Strong communication and teamwork skills. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements:</p> <p>This role requires outdoor work in all types of weather, including at active landfill sites. You may encounter noise, odors, dust, and potentially hazardous materials, so personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required. Physical tasks may include lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, bending, and standing for long periods. You must also be available for emergency response and on-call work as needed.</p> <p>Work Hours and Days:</p> <p>Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM</p> <p>Every other Saturday, 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM</p> <p>Emergency situations may require additional hours or after-hours work.</p> <p>About Solid Waste and Lee County:</p> <p>Solid Waste Division:</p> <p>Lee County Solid Waste works to protect the environment and support a healthier community through responsible and efficient waste management.
