<p>Job Description:</p> <p>The Department of Physics, offering the B.S. in Physics, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of physics, to begin Fall 2025. The successful candidate is expected to teach courses ranging from introductory physics (lectures and/or labs) to higher level physics courses (e.g. electromagnetism, statistical physics, quantum physics). In addition, the successful candidate will be required to teach some courses for the Department of Chemistry: upper-level Physical Chemistry I and II (every other year), and freshman level General Chemistry I and II (occasionally). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in summer research involving students. Both Physicists and Chemists are encouraged to apply for this position.</p> <p>The Department of Physics has three permanent faculty positions and a full-time lecturer. Teaching load is 9 contact hours per week in one term and 12 in the other term. The departments typically graduate 2-4 physics majors per year. Department faculty members are generalists by necessity but have research areas of expertise that include experimental neutrino physics, astrophysics, theoretical high energy physics, astrobiology, and exoplanets.</p> <p>Faculty members are expected to maintain active research that includes undergraduates when appropriate (internal undergraduate research funding is available on a competitive basis). The Physics department houses shared laboratory space for research, including some computing and optical equipment, and has access to a machine shop supported by a technician. The Chemistry department also has a full suite of modern chemical instrumentation, including Agilent GC-MS, Agilent LC-MS, Shimadzu HPLC and UV-VIS, and Perkin Elmer IR.</p> <p>Tenure-track faculty receive competitive startup packages. Professional travel funding and competitive internal research and publication expense grants are available to all faculty.</p> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>A Ph.D. in physics and/or chemistry or a closely related field (ABD considered); a strong commitment to the education of undergraduates in the arts, sciences and engineering (prior teaching experience at the college level is preferred).</p> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Norwich University is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to providing a positive education and work environment that recognizes and respects the dignity of all students, faculty and staff.
