<p>RECREATION DIRECTOR</p> <p>Summary/Objective: Ensure the development, organization and coordination of facility and community resources to provide comprehensive Therapeutic Recreation Services and programs that fulfill the basic psychological, physical, social, cultural, emotional, spiritual and recreational needs and interests of each resident.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <p>Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <ul> <li>Recreation Services: </li></ul> <p>o Interview and assess all residents prior to the initial Care Plan Conference; document this information in the medical record, develop an individual recreation plan based on the assessment and participate in Interdisciplinary Care Plan meetings.</p> <p>o Update assessments and plans as needed and as required by state/federal regulations.</p> <p>o Develop monthly recreation program calendars that reflect and meets the needs of the facility resident population. Communicate facility programs to residents, staff, family and volunteers.</p> <p>o Manage the facility's Volunteer Program.</p> <p>o Maintain departmental documentation that reflects services provided and resident progress towards goals.</p> <ul> <li>Supervisory: </li></ul> <p>o Interview, hire, train, supervise, evaluate and discipline Recreation Services personnel. Set job assignments and set priorities.</p> <p>o Orient new staff and participate in recruitment and selection. Keep employees informed of changes that affect them.</p> <p>o Ensure universal precautions and infection control, isolation, fire, safety and sanitation practices and procedures are followed and promptly address any hazardous conditions.</p> <p>o Maintain records, manage budget and supplies.</p> <p>o Meet Company policies and state and federal regulations regarding recreation programs.</p> <ul> <li>Residents' Council: </li></ul> <p>o Assist the residents in the organization and continued development of a Resident's Council.</p> <ul> <li>Customer Service: </li></ul> <p>o Provide compassionate resident care services.</p> <p>o Establish and maintain positive interactions with internal and external customers, including co-workers and direct reports.</p> <p>o Promptly respond to call lights.</p> <ul> <li>Resident's Rights </li></ul> <p>:o Knows Resident Rights. Helps the residents/residents exercise and/or protect their rights.</p> <p>o Reports resident/resident complaints to management.</p> <p>o Maintains confidentiality of resident/resident information.</p> <p>o Understand, comply with and promote all rules and regulations regarding residents' rights.</p> <p>o Support resident autonomy and choice.</p> <ul> <li>HIPAA: </li></ul> <p>o Follows and adheres to Facility's policies and procedures implementing HIPAA requirements for the privacy and security of protected health information.</p> <p>o Uses and/or discloses only minimum amount of Protected Health Information necessary to complete assigned tasks.</p> <p>o Reports all suspected violation of company's HIPAA policies or procedures to Facility Privacy Designee.</p> <ul> <li>Continuing Education: </li></ul> <p>o Participate in facility/department in-services and quality improvement activities.</p> <p>o Attend continuing education programs.</p> <p>o Attend facility/department/staff meetings as required.</p> <ul> <li>Safety: </li></ul> <p>o Knows and follows all Company policies, regulations and requirements.</p> <p>o Demonstrate safe practices in regard to resident's comfort and safety by applying knowledge of proper body alignment for self and resident.</p> <p>o Practice and promote adherence to institutional safety codes.</p> <p>o Follows facility dress and hygiene policies.</p> <p>o Demonstrates proper use of equipment. Reports equipment needs or repairs.</p> <p>o Follows facility smoking policies.</p> <p>o Reports and documents any incidents or accidents of residents, staff or visitors to the appropriate facility personnel.</p> <p>o Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment to Supervisor.</p> <p>o Performs duties, which may include transportation of residents, as assigned in Facility Disaster Plan.</p> <p>o Uses required protective equipment.</p> <p>o Follows infection control standards, policies and procedures.</p> <p>Competencies</p> <ul> <li>Initiative </li><li>Leadership </li><li>Time Management </li><li>Decision Making </li><li>Communication Proficiency </li><li>Organizational Skills </li></ul> <p>Management Responsibility</p> <p>This position manages, and is responsible for the performance management of, employees within the department.</p> <p>Other Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Must adhere to Code of Conduct and Business Ethics policy, including documentation and reporting responsibilities. </li><li>Participate in Quality Improvement activities as assigned. </li><li>Ability to understand and apply training from in-service education. </li><li>This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work. </li><li>This is a position in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holidays and working during inclement weather may be required. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>This job operates in a fast-paced nursing home environment. Also routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.</p> <p>The responsibilities of this position involve significant physical activities including sitting (greater than 3 hours), standing, lifting (up to 20 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The ability to understand instructions, both oral and written. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. All employees of skilled nursing facilities may be required to provide lifting and transfer assistance to residents. Lifting and/or transferring some residents will require use of a lifting device and /or assistance of other staff.</p> <p>Required Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Must be eligible for certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body; or have two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, one of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting; or is a qualified Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant; or have completed a training course approved by the State. </li><li>Must hold or acquire state required licenses and/or certifications. </li><li>Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule. </li><li>Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers and other facility staff. </li><li>Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with long-term care residents and the elderly. </li><li>Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. </li><li>Must be able to maintain regular attendance. </li><li>Meet all health requirements, as required by law. </li><li>Demonstrate basic computer knowledge and ability, including e-mail, with an aptitude to learn company applications. </li><li>Demonstrate understanding of State and Federal rules and regulations that govern the practices within the facility. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Experience in a fast-paced environment. </li></ul> <p>Other Duties</p> <p>This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
