<p>JOB TITLE</p> <p>Interim Director, Mass Academy</p> <p>LOCATION</p> <p>Worcester</p> <p>DEPARTMENT NAME</p> <p>Undergraduate Studies</p> <p>DIVISION NAME</p> <p>Worcester Polytechnic Institute - WPI</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY</p> <p>The Mass Academy of Math and Science seeks a dynamic, innovative and committed educational leader to join our community as the Interim Director for the 2025-2026 school year. The Interim Director is eligible to apply for the permanent Director position once it is posted.</p> <p>The Mass Academy of Math and Science is a public school of excellence for 100 academically accelerated 11th and 12th grade students in Massachusetts. We emphasize math and science within a comprehensive, interactive program. The rigor of junior year classes exceeds high school honors and AP, with more than 1100 hours of instruction. Seniors complete a year of college, enrolling in classes at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a nationally ranked engineering school, thus making the Academy the only public school in Massachusetts whose students attend a private university full-time as seniors in high school.</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>The Director's primary responsibility is to support the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff at Mass Academy by cultivating a shared vision that makes powerful teaching and learning the central focus of the Academy. The Director serves as both the Superintendent of the district and Principal for Mass Academy, which is designated as its own district and as a high school by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education profile.</p> <p>Responsibilities of the Director include:</p> <ul> <li>Serving as both the Superintendent of the district and Principal for Mass Academy, which is designated as its own district and as a high school on DESE profile </li><li>Promoting the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff by ensuring a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment, using resources to implement appropriate curriculum, staffing, and scheduling. </li><li>Developing a budget that supports the Academy's vision, mission, and goals; allocates and manages expenditures consistent with the Academy's goals and available resources; works with WPI, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Massachusetts Legislature to support annual funding goals. </li><li>Creating additional funding opportunities through grants, campaigns, and events. </li><li>Promoting the learning and growth of students and the success of staff through effective partnerships with families, community organizations, alumni, and other stakeholders that support the mission of the school and the vision of the graduate. </li><li>Representing the Academy in its dealings with other school systems, institutions, agencies, and community organizations. </li><li>Advocating for the Academy through the Commonwealth's legislative and executive branches. </li><li>Acting as liaison between the Academy and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. </li><li>Acting as the primary liaison between the Academy and WPI </li><li>Taking a leadership role in NCSSS activities </li><li>Creating an innovative environment to allow the Academy to take the lead in STEM education on the local, state and national level. </li><li>Serving as the primary spokesperson for the Academy, including all media communication, in coordination with WPI's Marketing and Communications office. </li><li>Organizing and administering the public relations program for the Academy, including social media. </li><li>Developing and nurturing a culture in which staff members are reflective about their practice and use student data, current research, best practices and theory to continuously adapt instruction and achieve improved results. Models these behaviors in the administrator's own practice. </li><li>Continuously engaging all stakeholders in the creation of a shared educational vision in which every student is prepared to succeed in postsecondary education and become responsible citizens and community contributors. </li><li>Implementing a cohesive approach to recruitment, hiring, induction, development, and career growth for teachers and staff that promotes high-quality and effective practice. </li><li>Employing strategies to build consensus throughout the Academy community. </li><li>Managing the admissions process, and leading the Academy team to make admissions decisions based on a holistic review of application credentials. </li><li>Representing Mass Academy and WPI on and off campus at professional conferences and related events </li><li>Cultivating relationships with local school districts, community agencies, parents, students (current and prospective), WPI faculty and Mass Academy alumni. </li></ul> <p>Qualified candidates will possess a valid Massachusetts license as both a Principal and a Superintendent, a master's degree or higher with a minimum of five years' experience in administration and supervision at the high school level; curriculum development, instructional leadership, and working with high performing students and faculty.</p> <p>This position offers competitive compensation and an exceptional benefits package. The candidate will be a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Retirement System. Qualified candidates should submit a letter of interest, resume and two letters of recommendation.
