<p>Overview</p> <p>The Lead Interaction Designer plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of BISSELL's connected product experiences. As a key member of the Consumer Design Team, this individual is responsible for defining and delivering intuitive, engaging, and cohesive user experiences across both digital and physical interfaces. From mobile apps and IoT ecosystems to embedded displays and physical controls, this role ensures that every interaction reflects BISSELL's commitment to innovation, usability, and consumer delight.</p> <p>This position requires a systems thinker who can balance user needs, technical constraints, and business objectives. The Lead Interaction Designer will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners-including Industrial Design, Engineering, Marketing, and Consumer Experience-to translate insights into actionable design strategies. They will lead the development of interaction models, behavior flows, and production-ready assets that bring clarity and consistency to the user journey across product categories such as Robotics, Surface Care, and Pet Care.</p> <p>In addition to hands-on design work, this individual will serve as a thought leader within the organization, contributing to the evolution of BISSELL's design language and advocating for user-centered design practices. With a deep understanding of cognitive, social, and sensory principles, the Lead Interaction Designer will help define how BISSELL's products behave, feel, and connect with users in meaningful ways.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Looking to the future</p> <ul> <li>Facilitate and contribute to innovation workshops by generating ideas and helping define opportunity spaces for future product experiences. </li><li>Lead discovery-phase activities to establish forward-looking UI/UX visions that align with emerging technologies and user expectations. </li><li>Recommend and support user research initiatives, including contextual inquiries and ethnographic studies, to uncover unmet needs and behavioral insights. </li><li>Provide actionable design intelligence through trend analysis, competitive benchmarking, and synthesis of emerging interaction paradigms. </li></ul> <p>Design Standardization</p> <ul> <li>Contribute to the evolution and governance of BISSELL's Mobile and IoT UI/UX design standards, ensuring consistency across platforms and product lines. </li><li>Align design strategies across interdisciplinary teams, fostering collaboration between design, development, and product marketing functions. </li><li>Develop physical interaction models that define logic, behavior, and interface specifications for embedded and tactile experiences. </li><li>Create digital interaction frameworks, including user flows, wireframes, and visual style guides, to support scalable and cohesive design systems. </li></ul> <p>Project Execution</p> <ul> <li>Support early GPD (Global Product Development) phases by driving concept development that meets the design success criteria outlined in the brief. </li><li>Lead the interaction design workstream for assigned GPD projects, ensuring UX deliverables align with charter goals and cross-functional expectations. </li><li>Develop interactive prototypes and UI simulations to communicate design intent and align stakeholders across internal and external teams. </li><li>Collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Interaction Design to ensure appropriate resourcing, planning, and execution of design deliverables. </li><li>Advocate for design intent throughout the development lifecycle, ensuring the final product experience reflects the original vision. </li><li>Manage and coordinate external design partners to maintain quality, consistency, and alignment with BISSELL's design standards. </li></ul> <p>People Management</p> <ul> <li>Lead, mentor, and develop internal interaction design team members while identifying and onboarding external resources as needed. </li><li>Foster a collaborative and respectful working environment with software and hardware development peers to deliver integrated user experiences. </li><li>Champion continuous improvement by identifying and implementing new tools, methods, and processes that elevate the IxD practice. </li><li>May be required to perform other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Required Experience/Education: Degree minimum: Bachelors Degree in IxD, Multi-Media Design, or ID</p> <ul> <li>Experience in user-centered design related to digital & physical user interfaces </li><li>10 years of relevant industry experience </li><li>Ability to clearly present ideas in visual communications </li><li>Excellent problem solving skills and familiarity with technical constraints and limitations </li><li>Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of Designers, Researchers, Engineers, Product Managers, and Marketers throughout the development process </li><li>High degree of self-motivation and is collaborative, creative, curious, committed with confidence </li></ul> <p>Specialized Training Or Skills Required:</p> <ul> <li>User interface standards development in coordination with product experience </li><li>Expertise in the development of workflows, processes and toolset selection </li><li>Knowledgeable in new IxD prototyping tools & services </li><li>Proficient creating pixel- perfect assets (Adobe Suite and Figma) </li><li>Expertise in Human Centered Design principles </li><li>Experienced working within an agile development process </li><li>Ability to visualize designs in Adobe Animate / Figma Prototype / HTML / After Effects / Proto.i.o </li></ul>
