<p>Position: School Nurse</p> <p>Position Type: Full-time</p> <p>Department: Student Services</p> <p>Location: Watertown Middle school</p> <p>Reports to: Principal, Student Services Administration</p> <p>Affiliation: WEA Unit A</p> <p>Salary Range: As determined by Unit A WEA Salary Schedule</p> <p>Summary:</p> <p>The school nurse will provide a broad range of health services including acute, episodic and emergency care. School nurses manage the care of students with special health care needs at school. The school nurse is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a school health program for a school population as defined by the school district.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Assesses the current health needs of the student population </li><li>Maintain individual health records on each student to accommodate individual needs of students; maintain student-athlete medical clearance </li><li>Administer required daily medications and over-the-counter medications per medication distribution protocols </li><li>Provide required medical treatments to students with specialized health care needs </li><li>Develops Individualized Health Care Plans for students with specialized health care needs </li><li>Ensure students comply with mandated school health requirements </li><li>Provide daily episodic care to students </li><li>Provide emergency care to students and staff </li><li>Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases within the school </li><li>Conducts required health screenings for students (vision, hearing, postural, heights and weights) </li><li>Refer students for follow-up medical evaluations </li><li>Collaborates with parents, physicians and identified community agencies to coordinate student's health care within the school </li><li>Provides health education to students and staff around specified health issues and topics </li><li>Where applicable, participate in 504 and IEP plan development </li><li>Provide consultation in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school district </li><li>Provide consultation to the District Wellness Committee </li><li>Review the Family ID nurse's report for expiring student physicals </li></ul> <p>Qualifications /License Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts </li><li>Bachelor's Degree </li><li>Two years of prior nursing experience in schools or pediatrics preferred </li><li>DESE Licensure as a School Nurse preferred </li><li>CPR/AED certified </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to move between multiple school sites as needed. </li><li>Frequent standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods. </li><li>Occasional lifting and carrying of medical supplies and equipment (up to 25 lbs). </li><li>Dexterity to perform medical procedures and operate standard nursing equipment. </li><li>Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations. </li><li>Capacity to communicate clearly and effectively in high-pressure environments. </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer:</p> <p>Watertown Public Schools is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
