<p>Tahanto Middle High School is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated School Nurse to join our team for the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing health care services to students and staff, maintaining a safe and healthy school environment, and promoting wellness initiatives within the school community. The School Nurse will work closely with administrators, faculty, and families to address health concerns and ensure students' physical and emotional well-being. Position: Full-Time Float Nurse beginning 2026-2027 Reports To: Works under the supervision of the Director of Pupil Personnel Services, his/her designees and the building Principal. Work Year Days: School year Work Hours: Flexibility required to work elementary or middle/high hours Educational/Training/Experience/License Required:</p> <ul> <li>Valid certificate as a School Nurse from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. </li><li>Valid License to practice as a registered nurse from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. </li><li>Experience in Child/Pediatric health, community health, or relevant clinical nursing experience. Experience as a school nurse preferred. </li><li>Current healthcare provider certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid, and AED from a recognized provider. </li><li>Strong written and oral communication skills </li><li>Ability to stand on one's feet for long periods of time and move quickly to respond to a crisis. </li></ul> <p>Accountability Objective: The school nurse is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a school health program consistent with Massachusetts guidelines, regulations and statutes governing nursing practice and school health, as well as local district policies and procedures. The goal of the school nurse is to promote the academic progress/success of students by assisting them to maintain, improve, or adapt to their health status Nursing Services Demonstrates appropriate nursing assessment skills and collaboration in meeting the health needs of students and staff.</p> <ul> <li>Provides direct nursing care to meet the needs of the students and staff, including administering first aid care for injuries, emergency medical care, toileting and personal care when needed, and management of acute and chronic Illnesses. </li><li>Collaborates with parents, student and their physician where appropriate, to develop, implement, and annually update an individualized health care plan for the student. </li><li>Collects and records medically relevant information about the health and development of the student and his or her family. </li><li>Provides medically prescribed interventions and over the counter medications per school physicians standing orders. </li><li>Makes home visits, completes home assessments, and presents assessment results at team meetings for Special education students as requested, with parent and administrative permission. </li><li>Recommend that students consult outside health care providers and/or appropriate school staff for evaluation and follow up, if indicated. Assist students and families in finding medical care when requested. </li><li>Responds to student issues, including issues such as abuse/neglect, Substance use/abuse, family crisis, and other health related concerns. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities: Student Health Care: Provide direct nursing services to students, including first aid, emergency care, medication administration, and care for chronic health conditions. Manage health supplies inventory and annual ordering in collaboration with Lead Nurse. Health Assessments: Conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis, BMI, SBIRT) and report findings in accordance with state and district guidelines. Health Records & Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date health electronic and physical paper records for all students, including immunization records, health care plans, and individual health assessments, working knowledge of medical electronic health system. Maintain a Substitute School Nurse Reference binder. Health Education: Provide educational resources and support to students and staff on topics such as nutrition, physical activity, and disease Prevention. Collaboration: Work closely with the school administration, District Nurse Leader, guidance counselors, special education staff, and teachers to support students' health and wellness needs, participate in 504 and IEP planning/development. Conduct or organize annual staff trainings. Compliance: Ensure compliance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and other relevant health regulations and policies, Follow HIPAA/FERPA while keeping relevant staff informed. Mental Health Support: Recognize and address mental health issues in students, offering guidance and support, and making referrals to appropriate mental health professionals when necessary. Parental Communication: Communicate with parents/guardians about students' health concerns, illnesses, and medical needs in a timely and confidential manner. Health and Safety Advocacy: Advocate for a healthy and safe school environment by participating in health and safety committees, and promoting programs that support students' overall well-being.
