The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Parks Supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other city employees and the public.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Safely operates a variety of landscape maintenance equipment including mowers, trimmers, skid steers, backhoe, blowers, trucks, trailers, etc. </li><li>Performs routine maintenance and major repairs to a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered landscape maintenance equipment. </li><li>Implements and maintains a scheduled maintenance program for equipment. </li><li>Performs preventative maintenance on equipment such as lubrication, cleaning, blade sharpening and converts equipment from lawn mowing to snow removal. </li><li>Makes recommendations to supervisor on repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment to achieve efficient workflows. </li><li>Determines and prepares proper gas/oil mixes for equipment. </li><li>Troubleshoots and repairs equipment electrical systems. </li><li>Performs welding and fabrication work for landscape maintenance equipment. </li><li>Performs safety tests and ensures all safety mechanisms are functioning and in place. </li><li>Performs battery maintenance including charging, replacing, and testing. </li><li>Winterizes equipment and prepares it for seasonal use and/or storage. </li><li>Establishes parts inventory system including ordering, storage, and dissemination. </li><li>Schedules repairs and maintenance across multiple Parks and Recreation divisions. </li><li>Troubleshoots and repairs mower hydraulic systems. </li><li>Prepares cost estimates for repairs including gathering quotes from vendors and making recommendations on repair procedures. </li><li>Reads and interprets manuals, drawings, and specifications for equipment. </li><li>Prioritizes work tasks that affect the productivity of the department including performing emergency or time critical repairs. </li></ul> <p>ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions as required. Reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and developments in the field. </li><li>Operates a personal computer and/or hand-held electronic devices using standard or customized software applications for assigned tasks. </li><li>Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems. </li><li>Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner. </li><li>Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities. </li><li>Is punctual and timely in meeting requirements of performance, including attendance standards and work deadlines. </li><li>Communicates information and states concerns in a clear and professional manner. </li><li>Respects the opinion of others and demonstrates a reasonable relationship with employees, supervisors, and others. </li><li>Accepts and performs in a timely and effective manner, changes in work assignments and/or how work is performed. </li><li>Assist and/or perform landscape maintenance duties such as mowing, trimming, snow removal, etc. </li><li>Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required. </li><li>4 plus years of experience in mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; and/or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. </li><li>First Aid, CPR, and AED certification is required within one year of employment. </li><li>Valid driver's license required. </li><li>State of Idaho Class B Commercial Driver's License is required within one year of employment. </li></ul> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Thorough knowledge of landscaping equipment preventative maintenance and basic repair principles and practices, including hydraulic systems, electrical systems, safety controls, wheels and casters, track and chains, mower blades, mixed fuel systems, and emissions control systems. </li><li>Thorough knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools, and materials used in maintenance and repair of small gasoline and diesel engines. </li><li>Thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of hand, power, and other shop related tools and safety mechanisms such as hoist systems, lock-out-tag-out, safety guards, trailer bindings, etc. </li><li>Thorough skill in equipment schematics reading and operation of a computer to access necessary equipment related information. </li><li>Ability to communicate with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language. </li><li>Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions. </li><li>Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions. </li><li>Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations. </li><li>Ability to read and interpret manuals, specifications, and drawings. </li><li>Ability to learn and use new software and perform other skills using technology to perform key aspects of the position. </li><li>Ability to perform basic welding techniques. </li><li>Display integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks. </li><li>Possesses sufficient physical capabilities, with or without accommodations, to perform the work duties including finger dexterity, speech, hearing, vision, mobility, and the ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds occasionally. </li></ul> <p>WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <ul> <li>Work is performed in a combination of an indoor garage/shop location as well as in outdoor environments with exposure to a variety of terrains and weather conditions. </li></ul> <p>REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION STATEMENT: To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, each essential function satisfactorily.
