The teacher must be able to teach both first and second year students, including students with IEPs and 504s. Responsibilities for the position include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Prepare students to take the New York State Licensing Exam in Barbering. </li><li>Create lesson plans and course outlines to prepare students to work in various areas of the barbering field. </li><li>Combine classroom and laboratory instruction for hands on learning. </li><li>Appropriate management of a classroom environment and meeting each student's needs. </li><li>Teach academic and professional skills for job acquisition, retention and advancement. </li><li>Provide an overview of the salon industry and opportunities for professional growth. </li><li>Evaluation of each student's progress as a part of record keeping </li></ul> <p>REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>New York State Education Department Certification: Teacher Certification or Transitional A, Initial or Professional in Barbering 7-12. </li><li>A valid New York State Barbering License. </li><li>A minimum of four years of professional experience in barbering. </li><li>Ability to network with professionals in the barbering field. </li><li>Strong oral, writing and communication skills. </li><li>Experience in salon management or ownership including hiring practices. </li><li>Experience working with secondary students is preferred. </li></ul> <p>SALARY: As per labor contract.</p> <p>Non-discrimination Statement</p> <p>The Nassau BOCES advises students, parents, employees and the general public that it offers employment and educational opportunities without regard to age, color, creed, disability, familial status, gender, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, military/veteran status, national origin, predisposing genetic characteristics, race, religion (including religious practice and/or expression), sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical condition), sexual orientation or victim of domestic violence status.
