<p>SPRINGFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>Springfield, Massachusetts</p> <p>TITLE: Student Assignment Services (SAS) Specialist</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: Student Assignment Services (SAS) Center, 91 School Street</p> <p>START DATE: July 1, 2025</p> <p>ANNUAL SALARY: $46,752.00 (General Funds)</p> <p>SCHEDULE: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week, some evenings and weekends required</p> <p>GENERAL SUMMARY:</p> <p>The Specialist is responsible for facilitating the registration of new and returning students to Springfield Public Schools and disseminating information on the policies, procedures and practices of the Springfield Public Schools to stakeholders.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>The above position is illustrative of the tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all -inclusive of every responsibility. The description does not constitute an employment agreement between the Springfield Public Schools and the employee and is subject to change by the Springfield Public Schools as the needs and requirements of the change of the job.</p> <ul> <li>Process the registration of students entering the Springfield Public Schools (SPS) following the appropriate federal, state and district regulations and guidelines </li><li>Ensure the appropriate collection of required documentation for registration following the appropriate federal, state and district regulations and guidelines </li><li>Inform and assist enrollees with documentation required for student registrations </li><li>Assign students to appropriate schools in accordance with SPS policies </li><li>Request student records from previous schools/ districts for incoming SPS students </li><li>Update database when custody changes and/or court records deem necessary </li><li>Answer and return phone calls and read and respond to emails in a timely and professional manner </li><li>Welcome families to the SAS Center by guiding and supporting them with their needs </li><li>Facilitate issuance of youth work permits </li><li>Prepare various communications for dissemination to applicable SPS stakeholders </li><li>Work with various computer applications including Word, PowerSchool and Outlook </li><li>Responsible for maintaining a welcoming and efficient work environment by ensuring proper organization of time and space </li><li>Work in collaboration with SAS teammates and other SAS Center departments to support daily operations of the center </li><li>Provide resources and data to assigned zone schools </li><li>Provide stakeholders with oral/written translation(s) as needed or required </li><li>Work to maintain and improve the overall internal and external image of the district, SAS Center and schools </li><li>Perform other duties as designated by SAS administration </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>Relevant associates degree required, or educational requirement may be substituted for at least 3 years of experience in relevant field </li><li>Responsible for specializing in a particular function or operational effort </li></ul> <p>KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of Springfield Public School district processes, policies and procedures </li><li>Knowledge of different areas of grade levels (grades, credits, and discipline) </li><li>Knowledge of students needs including Individual Education Plans and 504s </li><li>Ability to handle common inquiries or complaints </li><li>Ability to respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, and visitors </li><li>Ability to establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships with staff, peers, supervisors, or managers in the work unit, as well as with staff of outside entities and other individuals, as applicable to the essential duties and responsibilities </li><li>Ability to provide positive and effective customer service </li><li>Ability to adapt to and accommodate new methods and procedures </li><li>Ability to work independently or as a member of a team </li><li>Utilize listening skills, work under pressure, address conflict and solve problems </li><li>Ability to read, analyze and interpret standard, policies, procedures and regulations </li><li>Ability to effectively present information using attention to detail and accuracy </li><li>Ability to exercise good judgment, set priorities and meet deadlines </li><li>Ability to operate standard office equipment, such as a computer keyboard, monitor, copies, scanners, and telephone </li><li>Ability to interact with and support members of diverse populations </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.</p> <p>WORKING ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>This position requires employees to be in an indoor office environment. Employees are often exposed to individuals who are rude or irate and sometimes exposed to individuals with known violent backgrounds or communicable diseases.</p> <p>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION</p> <ul> <li>Bilingual ability (written and oral) a plus </li><li>Willing to work a schedule which coincides with the operational needs of the Student Assignment Services Center </li><li>Overtime is required during busy season(s) </li></ul> <p>The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
