<p>Position Title:</p> <p>Engineer IV - Development Review (may underfill)</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>As a registered professional engineer and a member of the Development Review team, reviews and manages development projects and engineering programs, and applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in a broad area of assignments. This is highly technical work requiring a broad background in civil engineering.</p> <p>About the Position:</p> <p>Development Review Engineer will review construction plans and documents submitted for review, including residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, and City projects. Position is responsible to ensure all federal, state, and city regulations are met for water, sewer, storm drain, and street lighting throughout Salt Lake City and the Department's water service area. Position will require candidate to exhibit exceptional time management, organizational, and communication skills.</p> <p>About the Team:</p> <p>The Development Services Division consists of engineers, permit technicians, engineering technicians, and customer service staff. SLCDPU's customer base includes contractors, plumbers, business owners, homeowners, and internal employees, including City Administration. The Division works closely with each other to ensure support of all positions and successful execution of City regulations.</p> <p>This position may be filled as a level IV, III, II or I depending on credentials. Early application is encouraged as the position will remain open until it is filled.</p> <p>Position Salary Range:</p> <ul> <li>Engineer I: $ 74,799.90 - $ 83,111 </li><li>Engineer II: $ 78,555.60 - $87,284 </li><li>Engineer III: $ 86660.10 - $96,289 </li><li>Engineer IV: $ 95552.10 - $106,169 </li></ul> <p>This position is eligible for full city benefits, including:</p> <ul> <li>Health Insurance (95% of premium paid by city) </li><li>Dental, Vision and Life Insurance </li><li>Paid vacation and personal leave </li><li>Six to Twelve weeks of paid parental leave from day 1 of employment </li><li>Retirement contributions toward a pension plan and/or 401(k) </li><li>A robust Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) </li><li>Up to $4,000 tuition reimbursement annually </li><li>Discounted supplemental benefits like pet insurance and legal services </li></ul> <p>IMPORTANT: Early application submittal is encouraged. This position will remain open until filled and may close at any time without notice.</p> <p>Engineer I</p> <p>TYPICAL DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Checks drawings, reviews minor designs. </li><li>Assists with field inspections and may perform design work on projects under the guidance of a professional engineer. </li><li>Assists with bidding procedure, including reviewing bid documents, meeting with various personnel and assisting with the assembling of documents. </li><li>Performs standard calculations and related design work. May write minor technical specifications. </li><li>Becomes familiar with procedural steps involved in engineering projects. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering equivalent from a fully accredited college or university. </li><li>Possession of an engineer in training certificate. </li><li>Ability to work and relate well with subordinates, supervisors, co-workers and the general public under varying circumstances. </li><li>Possession of a valid driver's license or driving privilege card. </li><li>Ability to utilize computers in engineering applications, present reports in written and oral form, and communicate effectively with co-workers, public and contractors. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Moderate physical activity. Required to push, pull or lift medium weights up to 50 pounds. Uncomfortable working positions such as stooping, crouching and bending. May have a few disagreeable elements such as appearance of work place, poor ventilation or uneven temperature. </li><li>Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior. </li></ul> <p>CAREER LADDER:</p> <ul> <li>After one year of successful performance, during which incumbent demonstrates ability to apply fundamental engineering principles, theories, concepts and practices to basic and routine engineering problems, he/she may be promoted to Engineer II. This is based on the performance coach's recommendation, availability of funds, and concurrence of the Department of Human Resources. </li></ul> <p>Engineer II</p> <p>TYPICAL DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Reviews designs for non-complex engineering projects in accordance with general engineering principles and Salt Lake City Standards. May work on larger projects as a team member or under more direct supervision. </li><li>Checks project plans, calculations and project parameters. Investigates and corrects field problems and suggests extra work orders of relatively routine nature. </li><li>May supervise engineering technicians actively involved in projects and may serve as project engineer on small projects. </li><li>Prepares reports of work done and project status. Assists with completion of appropriate project documents, and meets periodically with departmental staff to outline project status. May meet with contractors as Salt Lake City representative. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering equivalent from a fully accredited college or university and one year paid work experience in civil engineering. </li><li>Possession of an engineer in training certificate. </li><li>Possession of a valid driver's license or driving privilege card. </li><li>Ability to utilize computers in engineering applications, prepare and present routine reports in written and oral form. Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with subordinates, supervisors, co-workers, contractors and the general public. </li><li>Ability to perform field analysis and make correct engineering decisions. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Moderate physical activity. Required to push, pull or lift medium weights up to 50 pounds. Uncomfortable working positions such as stooping, crouching and bending. This is based on the performance coach's recommendation, availability of funds, and concurrence of the Department of Human Resources. </li></ul> <p>Engineer III</p> <p>TYPICAL DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Reviews more complex designs from developers with general engineering principles and Salt Lake City Standards. May work on larger projects as a team member or under more direct supervision. </li><li>May supervise technicians and serve as project engineer. </li><li>Prepares reports of work done and project status. Meets periodically with departmental staff to outline project status. </li><li>May serve as Salt Lake City representative on joint projects, meet with general public or project consultants to evaluate and resolve project problems. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a bachelor of science degree and three years paid work experience in Civil Engineering or related engineering equivalent. </li><li>Possession of an engineer in training certificate. </li><li>Possession of a valid driver's license or driving privilege card. </li><li>Ability to utilize computers in engineering applications, prepare and present moderately complex reports in written and oral form, effectively interface with subordinates, supervisors, co-workers, contractors and the general public. </li><li>Ability to perform engineering studies and field analysis, make correct engineering decisions, supervise subordinate engineers and contractors, and administer related contracts. </li></ul> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Moderate physical activity. Such individual will be fully competent in all conventional aspects of the profession, with ability to devise new approaches to problems encountered. Promotion will be based on the performance coach's recommendation, availability of funds, and concurrence of the Department of Human Resources. </li></ul> <p>Engineer IV</p> <p>TYPICAL DUTIES:</p> <ul> <li>Reviews and approves designs for engineering projects in accordance with general engineering principles and Salt Lake City Standards. Serves on general planning, design and project review committees. </li><li>Reviews complex plans and assures complete designs follow standards as set by Salt Lake City, various codes or standard engineering principles. </li><li>May supervise engineers or technicians with responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of their work. Approves or rejects contractors' work, specifications, or cost estimates. </li><li>Reviews or prepares reports of work done and project status. Prepares project documents and meets periodically with departmental staff to outline project status. </li><li>May serve as Salt Lake City representative on joint projects and meet with general public or consultants to evaluate and resolve project problems. </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</p> <ul> <li>Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering equivalent from a fully accredited college or university and four years paid work experience in civil engineering or related field. </li><li>Possession of a professional engineer certificate from the State of Utah.
