We value the skills, knowledge and experiences a diverse workforce brings to our school.</p> <p>The Position</p> <p>The Orchard School seeks an experienced, mission-driven, and collaborative Director of Operations (DOO) to inspire and lead a dedicated team of school operations professionals. The DOO reports directly to the Head of School, serves as a member of the Senior Administrative team, and supervises direct reports in six departments: Facilities, Information Technology, Food Service, Security, Extended Programs, and Nursing, overseeing the day-to-day activities of the school, ensuring that the organization is managed and performing efficiently and effectively.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Directly supervising the performance of the School Nurse, School Safety Officer, Extended Programs Director, Foodservice Director, Information Technology Director and Facilities Director </li><li>Ensuring that Extended Programs are provided seamlessly and the institution is in line with industry best practices </li></ul> <p>? Ensuring that the technology department is providing the overall framework and support (architecture, standards, policies and procedures) for both the instructional and administrative needs - including supervision of technology team members.</p> <ul> <li>Ensuring that school nursing services are high quality and provide consistent support to students and staff across the school day </li><li>Educating all stakeholders in best business practices </li><li>Overseeing relationships with other vendors and school business partners, including the </li></ul> <p>school's endowment manager</p> <ul> <li>Overseeing the buildings and grounds of the school, including maintenance, construction, custodial services, and grounds-keeping </li><li>Overseeing the food service operations of the school and ensuring all health conditions are met </li><li>Overseeing the transportation service at the school, including maintenance and safety of the vehicles, transportation schedules, approved drivers list, insurance, and driver drug testing </li><li>Overseeing significant plant improvements and proactively planning for their maintenance over time </li><li>Maintaining appropriate physical plant and general liability policies </li><li>Maintaining the official policy handbook of The Orchard School </li><li>Working closely with other members of the senior administrative team </li></ul> <p>Additional Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Communicates and explains new directives, policies, or procedures to managers; for major changes, meets with entire operations staff to explain changes, answer questions, and maintain morale. </li><li>Improves customer service and satisfaction through policy and procedural changes. </li><li>Leads coordination and integration of efforts among operations, engineering, technology, and customer service divisions to produce smoother workflow and more cost-effective business processes. </li><li>Projects a positive image of the organization to employees, vendors, industry, and community. </li><li>Other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <ul> <li>Talking, listening, and vision </li><li>Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer </li><li>Mobility to roam 155,000 square foot building </li><li>Occasional lifting up to 15 pounds </li></ul> <p>Qualifications and Attributes</p> <ul> <li>BS or BA degree from a 4-year accredited college required. Master's degree preferred. </li><li>Operational experience required </li><li>Strong working knowledge of EXCEL required </li><li>Familiarity with business operations at independent schools or non-profits preferred </li><li>Must protect confidential information and establish credibility </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with diverse personalities, demonstrating tact, flexibility and compassion </li><li>Judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, procedures, regulation or </li></ul> <p>governmental law while recognizing and supporting the organization's priorities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make recommendations </li><li>Ability to read, analyze and interpret legal and other technical documents </li><li>Ability to write effective and grammatically correct letters, reports, spreadsheets, and other business correspondence and to present information to applicable constituencies </li><li>A passion for the mission and vision of The Orchard School </li><li>A commitment to embracing and cultivating diversity within the workplace and school settings </li><li>An ability to collaborate with multiple departments and lead complex projects </li><li>Forward thinking and flexible </li></ul> <p>Benefits</p> <p>The Orchard School values our employees and offers a total compensation package designed to attract and retain talented individuals who make our school successful.
