Discover your opportunities at Yale!</p> <p>Hourly Range</p> <p>27.74</p> <p>Overview In 1971, Yale University became one of the first universities in the U.S. to provide healthcare services to its faculty, staff, and students. Today, Yale Health, a not-for-profit organization, serves more than 49,000 members of the Yale community and their families with more than 150 board-certified healthcare providers. Most care and services are provided in our state-of-the-art, facility, with modern exam rooms, an Acute Care, an inpatient facility, a diagnostic imaging suite, and a full-service retail pharmacy. We are currently seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join the department of Dermatology. The Medical Assistant will work as a member of the Yale Health Dermatology/Specialty Care team by providing seamless, coordinated and compassionate care at each patient encounter. They will provide care to patients as directed by nursing and clinical staff; assist the clinician with the daily operations of clinic; maintain a comfortable, orderly, safe and clean environment for patient care; prepare exam rooms; select and lay out medical supplies; maintain medical equipment in good working order; prepare patients for examinations; measure and record vital signs; collect pertinent data relevant to the patient visit; provide routine information related to medical treatments and procedures; prepares for the day/same-day clinic by doing chart prep, electronic medical record (EMR) review for results and anticipate data patient/clinician needs for visit; access the EMR as appropriate; response to task and messages directed to medical assistance staff in a timely manner; record and report patient information; order and maintain inventory of medical supplies for the department; restock exam rooms.; maintain dirty and clean utility areas; perform point of care testing/CLIA testing for patient encounters including, but not limited to: ECGs, PVRs, Hba1c, urine, and HCG; perform clerical functions and provide assistance to clinicians and nursing staff in support of critical activities (i.e. scheduling/rescheduling appointments; participates in the daily weekly and monthly department QI activities; handle/process specimens according to organization/department policy and procedure; assist clinician with sterile and clean procedures; setup, assist and cleanup of procedures. Required Skills and Abilities 1. Demonstrated ability as a medical assistant in a hospital or outpatient setting. Proficiency in all Point of Care Testing (POCT) including CLIA-waived testing. Demonstrated proficiency properly labeling and handling of specimens. 2. Demonstrated ability to perform in stressful situations. Flexibility and willingness to move easily between tasks. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster positive, respectful relationships with co-workers and a diverse population. 3. Well-developed critical thinking skills and the demonstrated ability to use sound independent judgment. 4. Proficiency in the use of an EMR or clinical scheduling system. 5. Ability to be reliable and dependable in attendance and punctuality, as confirmed by references. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills Demonstrated experience with set-up and assisting with minor surgical procedures using sterile technique; previous demonstrated experience as a medical assistant in an outpatient setting. Proficiency in Epic.</p> <p>Principal Responsibilities</p> <ol> <li>Maintains comfortable, orderly, safe, and clean environment. 2. Prepares patients for examinations. Provides routine information related to medical treatments and procedures. 3. Measures and records vital signs. Collects specimens. Prepares examining rooms. Selects and lays out medical supplies. 4. Maintains medical equipment. Records and reports patient information. Retrieves laboratory test results and patient files. 5. Escorts patients and visitors. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 6. Performs clerical functions related to medical activities. Required Education and Experience Two years of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. </li></ol> <p>Background Check Requirements</p> <p>All candidates for employment will be subject to pre-employment background screening for this position, which may include motor vehicle, DOT certification, drug testing and credit checks based on the position description and job requirements. Healthcare workers (HCW) are defined as university employees working a healthcare setting who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients, human research subjects or infectious materials including body substance, contaminated medical supplies, devices and equipment, surfaces, or air.
