<p>Summary</p> <p>The Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator identifies, verifies, and investigates complications and events involving trauma patients. Under minimal supervision from the Trauma Program Manager and/or Trauma Medical Director, they will analyze trends and lead the performance improvement and quality assurance activities of the trauma program beginning with pre-hospital and extending through discharge. This role will reflect the most recent criteria and standards outlined in the current American College of Surgeons (ACS) Resources for the Optimal Care of the Injured Patient with respect to trauma performance improvement activities</p> <p>MISSION, VALUES and SERVICE GOALS</p> <ul> <li>MISSION: We deliver outstanding care, inspire health, and connect with heart. </li><li>VALUES: Trust. Be on their team. </li></ul> <p>Trauma Operations and Designation:</p> <ul> <li>Coordinates the Trauma Performance Improvement Program (PIP) at the facility level to include data collection, collation, analysis, modification, and instruction. </li><li>Reviews Performance Improvement indicators and medical records for accuracy, completeness of documentation, and audit filters as specified by the PIPs plan and the ACS. </li><li>Collects and analyzes benchmarking data, focus studies and clinical indicators. </li><li>Provides education, ensures loop closure, prepares reports, presents outcomes and participates in continuous improvement projects as it relates to the trauma program. </li><li>Participates in new employee trauma education and orientation to facility charting and trauma care expectations. </li><li>Monitors compliance with established standards as set forth by the policy and procedures of the trauma program; as well as national, state, and regional agencies. </li><li>Documents performance improvement processes to determine success of actions and implementations of loop closure/resolution/next steps. </li><li>Provides patient follow-up with physicians, hospitals, and emergency medical services. </li><li>Interprets and presents data that supports process improvement and research by identifying variations in patient care delivery and measuring outcomes with benchmarks. </li><li>Reports any identified quality of care concerns including sentinel events, deaths, transfers, or complications. </li><li>Collaborates with the trauma team to prepare documents for trauma medical peer/case reviews, morbidity and mortality, or other meetings as requested. </li><li>Collaborates with the Medical Director and Program Manager to ensure successful verification/designation. </li><li>Assumes lead role in PI components of the verification/designation process </li><li>Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hospital policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service. </li><li>Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff. </li></ul> <p>Trauma Quality Improvement and Patient Outcomes:</p> <ul> <li>Utilize a variety of improvement methodologies and group management techniques to support teams through improvement initiatives. </li><li>Working collaboratively with all members of the trauma team and leadership, they are responsible for development of action plans and completion of loop closure/event resolution for both quality of care and risk issues. </li><li>Emphasis will be placed on initiatives to increase efficiencies and reduce variability, errors, and defects utilizing program data and current trauma best practices. T </li><li>Prepare reports and recommendations, provide education to team members as needed, and apply new continuous improvement methodologies to spread successful innovation throughout the hospital. </li></ul> <p>Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department:</p> <ul> <li>Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned. </li></ul> <p>ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. </li><li>Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes. </li><li>Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. </li><li>Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. </li><li>Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department. </li><li>Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self. </li><li>Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. </li><li>Complies with established organization and department policies. </li><li>Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required. </li></ul> <p>Commitment to Beacon's six-point Operating System, referred to as The Beacon Way:</p> <ul> <li>Leverage innovation everywhere. </li><li>Cultivate human talent. </li><li>Embrace performance improvement. </li><li>Build greatness through accountability. </li><li>Use information to improve and advance. </li><li>Communicate clearly and continuously. </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a nursing program. Required graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana. BSN is required; master's degree is preferred. Two to five years of job-related experience in trauma patient care required; leadership experience is preferred. Must maintain current CPR/BLS as well as advanced trauma certification (TNCC, TCAR/PCAR, ATCN, TCRN) within 2 years of hire. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge & Skills</p> <ul> <li>Requires clinical knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and a thorough understanding of injured patient care. </li><li>Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (data entry, spread sheets and presentation software). </li><li>Requires skills necessary to effectively plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate Trauma Services. </li><li>Requires a strong understanding of the regulatory environment. </li><li>Requires strong analytical, problem solving, planning, organizing and decision-making skills. </li><li>Requires interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to work with hospital-wide departments and Medical Staff and to make public presentations regarding injured patient care. </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <ul> <li>Works in office and patient care area. </li><li>Tight deadlines, busy environment, multiple interruptions. </li><li>Public speaking. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands</p> <ul> <li>Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time) to perform the essential functions of the position. </li></ul>
