<p>BARNSTABLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>HYANNIS, MA 02601</p> <p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p> <p>POSITION: Special Education Personal Care Teacher Assistant (PCTA)</p> <p>JOB GOAL: To assist school staff in meeting individualized student and program needs.</p> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>One year of college required; two years of college preferred. </li><li>Physical condition so as to be able to manage behavior/physically challenged students; must have the ability to lift 50 pounds. </li><li>Interest in and exposure with students with disabilities. </li><li>Basic understanding of child growth and development. </li><li>Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal or Director of Special Education/Designee may find appropriate or acceptable. </li></ul> <p>REPORTS TO: Principal or Designee</p> <p>PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>THIS POSITION IS INDIVIDUALIZED DUE TO UNIQUE NEEDS OF STUDENTS AND PROGRAMS. DIRECTION OF THE PCTA IS PROVIDED BY THE SPECIAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR OR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER.</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality of student information. </li><li>Current restraint program certification. </li><li>Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher. </li><li>Implement student behavior plans. </li><li>Awareness of identified student health concerns, monitor/assist as appropriate in collaboration with teacher and nurse. </li><li>Toileting/personal care/hygiene, when necessary. </li><li>Awareness of student-assistance protocol. </li><li>Assist with collecting, maintaining, and organizing data and portfolios, and/or work samples of student(s). </li><li>Assist student(s) with organization of desk, homework, class work and materials. </li><li>Assist special education teacher with implementation of student academic plans. </li><li>When applicable, consult daily with teachers and other service providers. </li><li>Facilitate student(s) social interaction. </li><li>Support student(s) inclusion in the general education setting as consistent with student's IEP. </li><li>Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Education. </li></ul> <p>JOB ENVIRONMENT: PreK-12 School</p> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Include frequent standing, walking, stooping, climbing,</p> <p>bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds; and possible exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases, depending on specific assignment.</p> <p>TERMS OF</p> <p>EMPLOYMENT: Per Contract</p> <p>SALARY: Per Contract</p> <p>ALL CANDIDATES SHOULD VISIT OUR WEBSITE, www.barnstable.k12.ma.us, FOR APPLICATION INFORMATION</p> <p>All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with a disability.</p> <p>Barnstable Public Schools is an EOE and strongly encourages minority candidates to apply.</p> <p>Revised June 2024</p>
