It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!</p> <p>Description of Work</p> <p>Salary Range: $31,200-$49,340</p> <p>This is a position at Piedmont Correctional Institution located in Salisbury, NC (Rowan County), which is a Medium male prison facility housing 800 inmates.</p> <p>Positions in this class are characterized by their performance of a variety of administrative, clerical, and office support duties. Positions require knowledge of the office or work unit policies and procedures in order to communicate information involving programs, functions, and services. Duties performed may include preparation of documents and reports, composition of memos and letters, the use of office technology, compiling records, organizing and maintaining files, posting information, greeting, referring, assisting visitors, clients, staff, and others, mail distribution, and photocopying. Positions may serve as the primary staff assistant to a department or program manager.</p> <p>Positions may serve as an office coordinator for a work unit.</p> <p>Specific duties:</p> <p>Provide administrative & clerical support to the Operations section of the institution.</p> <p>Compose, maintain and process a variety of documents, records and correspondence to include word processing and organizing, coding/logging various reports, plans, charts, operational procedures, and/or rosters.</p> <p>Utilize an appropriate filing system, either alphabetically, chronologically or by subject and include both electronic and hard copy files.</p> <p>Prepare and compile statistics and data for reports utilizing excel spreadsheets.</p> <p>Prepare monthly reports.</p> <p>Attend meetings and record minutes for distribution to staff and management.</p> <p>Draft memoranda, reports and record keeping documents, etc., as instructed by the supervisor. Research and compile information to include in documents.</p> <p>Compose correspondence relating to specific projects or work from the assigned section staff. These compositions may go to offenders, departmental or other agency personnel. Correspondence will be presented to the direct supervisor for approval and signature.</p> <p>Order supplies and inventory.</p> <p>Process offender grievances.</p> <p>Review and proofread all documents to ensure appropriate and accurate information is included and the document is written in proper format with clarity of content and appropriate grammar.</p> <p>Complete all documents and/or reports prioritizing routine and urgent matters to ensure tasks are completed within the required deadline. </p> <p>Screen telephone calls from a variety of sources.</p> <p>Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences</p> <p>Management Preferences:</p> <p>Documented knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites and other office technology</p> <p>Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.</p> <p>This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.</p> <p>Note to Current State Employees:</p> <p>The salary grade for this position is NC02. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.
