<p>Job Description</p> <p>ECU Health</p> <p>About ECU Health Medical Center</p> <p>ECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health Medical Center has achieved Magnet designation twice and provides acute and intermediate care, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to a 29-county region that is home to more than 1.4 million people.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>Under the general direction of the ASL Coordinator, the ASL Interpreter provides accurate and professional sign language interpretation to ECU Health patients, families and team members in a wide variety of healthcare settings (in-person or VRI), supports the ASL Interpreter Residency Program, and provides education of varying degrees to staff, patients, and family members. This position has responsibilities outside of direct interpretation which include developing and supervising ASL residents, scheduling interpreting services when needed, connecting patients/families/team members with the appropriate resources for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and providing education about how to access these. In addition, the ASL Interpreter will assist the Language Access Department with daily operations such as reporting, record keeping, and VRI device management. Some travel is required. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <p>Interpreting - Provide complete, timely and accurate interpretations ASL-English/English-ASL for patients, families, team members and providers. Identify and gather healthcare and background information or resources relevant to each encounter. Interpreting may be in person or by video.</p> <p>Ethical judgement - Apply discretion, skill and professional judgement to decision making. Adhere to ECU Health's values, and the RID/NAD Code of Professional Conduct (CPC).</p> <p>Cultural brokerage - Be a resource to patients, families and team members and a champion for language access and Deaf culture/issues within the organization and surrounding communities. Be knowledgeable of relevant sources of information.</p> <p>Experience champion - Maintain a spirit of hospitality during interaction with patients, families, team members and providers.</p> <p>Operational Support - Support Language Access Services by securing interpreter resources for ASL patients, preparing reports, assisting with Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) devices and other equipment, and performing other duties as assigned.</p> <p>Reviews, submits, and manages eligible reimbursement projects for the provision of clinical ASL interpreting services to the NCDHHS Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing under the supervision of the ASL Coordinator.</p> <p>Develop program marketing materials, promote informational awareness of program, and host recruitment sessions for the ASL Interpreter Residency program.</p> <p>Collaborate in developing and implementing individualized educational curriculum, including both technical skills and soft skills, for ASL interpreting residents.</p> <p>Communicate expectations, assign accountabilities, and measure performance against educational and operational expectations to ASL interpreter residents.</p> <p>Provide direction, coaching, and counseling to ASL Interpreter Residents to successfully develop their skills within the outpatient and acute care settings.</p> <p>Facilitate and teach best practice for the delivery of assistive devices to meet the needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.</p> <p>Monitor and ensure adherence to policies and procedures through systematic review or audits.</p> <p>Ensure effective operations and support for compliance with applicable governing, regulating, and accrediting bodies, licensure, laws, and regulations.</p> <p>Collaborate in developing, strategizing, and implementing ongoing growth for future development of the ASL Interpreter Residency program.</p> <p>Develop instructional materials and conduct in-service and community educational programs.</p> <p>Participate directly or delegate representation in community events to promote Language Access Services goals and/or serve the public.</p> <p>Collaborate with Academic Practice community to develop, expand or implement programs or health services that promote the needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and enrich the ASL residency program experience.</p> <p>Advertise and share program/program success as appropriate at ASL/DHH conferences, workshops, and trainings.</p> <p>Partner with vendors/agencies to provide a center of skill development for ongoing education credits to the greater ASL interpreting community.</p> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <p>North Carolina Interpreters and Transliterators Licensing Board (NCITLB) full license required.</p> <p>National certification (RID/NIC) is required.</p> <p>College Degree (4yrs) required- or higher.</p> <p>Must have knowledge of medical terminology in both English and ASL.</p> <p>Travel is required.</p> <p>4 or more years of healthcare interpreting experience is required.</p> <p>Periodic on-call rotation required for this role.</p> <p>Other Information</p> <p>Location: ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC</p> <p>Shift: Full-Time Days</p> <p>Hours: Primary work schedule will be M-F 8-5 with flexibility to meet</p> <p>patient needs</p> <p>Weekends: Rotating</p> <p>On-Call: Yes</p> <p>Great Benefits!!!!</p> <p>General Statement</p> <p>It is the goal of ECU Health and its entities to employ the most qualified individual who best matches the requirements for the vacant position.</p> <p>Offers of employment are subject to successful completion of all pre-employment screenings, which may include an occupational health screening, criminal record check, education, reference, and licensure verification.</p> <p>We value diversity and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
