<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Danbury Public Schools is a diverse community located in the western part of Connecticut, serving more than 12,500 students across the City of Danbury. We have set ambitious and rigorous goals to ensure that our students graduate prepared to transform our world, and we are always searching for educators who are deeply committed to our mission and the success of all students.</p> <p>We are seeking a highly qualified, innovative, and entrepreneurial instructional leader to serve as Assistant Principal of Westside Middle School Academy (WSMSA). WSMSA is a full-day intradistrict magnet school serving students in grades 6-8. The school offers a rigorous and engaging academic experience that emphasizes STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Global Studies. Students participate in hands-on, immersive learning designed to promote curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving within a global context. The Assistant Principal will support the continued growth of this dynamic program and help cultivate a school environment where every student thrives.</p> <p>Primary Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Assist in the development and implementation of a School Improvement Plan that is data-driven, equity-focused, and aligned with district goals </li><li>Support the school's vision and Danbury's Portrait of the Graduate, helping to advance transformational learning experiences </li><li>Promote student achievement, high-quality instruction, and a nurturing school climate with a strong emphasis on social-emotional learning and restorative practices </li><li>Collaborate with the Principal to maintain and expand the school's magnet theme in STEM and Global Studies through interdisciplinary curriculum, project-based learning, and real-world applications </li><li>Assist with recruitment, hiring, and supervision of high-quality and diverse staff; conduct evaluations in alignment with district expectations </li><li>Collaborate with district leaders to support English Learners and students with disabilities; actively engage in SRBI implementation and intervention strategies </li><li>Oversee and participate in PPT and 504 meetings in partnership with special education staff </li><li>Partner with families and the school community to foster meaningful engagement and communication </li><li>Support building operations, including student safety, facilities management, and coordination with custodial and security personnel </li><li>Monitor student attendance, discipline, and behavior interventions in alignment with board policy and best practices </li><li>Ensure accurate and timely submission of school-based records and reports </li><li>Serve as a collaborative member of the administrative team and perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent's designee </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Valid Connecticut Intermediate Administrator (092) Certification required </li><li>3-5 years of exemplary teaching experience; prior leadership or administrative experience preferred </li><li>A track record of strong academic achievement as a teacher or leader, and a desire to improve outcomes for all students </li><li>Demonstrated success working with diverse student populations; urban district experience strongly preferred </li><li>Experience or familiarity with STEM and/or Global Studies instructional programming preferred </li><li>Strong data analysis skills and understanding of formative and summative assessment tools </li><li>Familiarity with SRBI, restorative practices, and inclusive instructional strategies </li><li>Exceptional communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills </li><li>Ability to foster a safe, positive, and inclusive school environment </li><li>Commitment to equity, continuous improvement, and culturally responsive leadership </li></ul> <p>Work Year:</p> <p>This is a full-year, 206-day position as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the DSAA and the Danbury Board of Education.</p>
