Continuous if date is blank.</p> <p>Note: Applications will be accepted until 11:59 PM on the day prior to the posting end date above.</p> <p>Estimated Appointment End Date (Continuous if Blank)</p> <p>Full/Part-Time</p> <p>Full time</p> <p>Job Type</p> <p>Regular</p> <p>Compensation</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Starting Salary: $5,250.00 per month ($63,000/yr)</p> <p>Working title: Range Operations Fire Desk Operator</p> <p>Benefits: This is a full-time state position that provides a percentage of matching contributions to employees' retirement plans, 11 holidays, and a minimum of 15 days of annual and sick leave per year. The state also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.</p> <p>Basic Purpose: This position is assigned the responsibilities of managing the Range Operations Fire Desk and serves as the primary point of contact and central coordinator for all activities within the installation's Range and Training Area (RTA) complex. Operating from the Range Operations Fire Desk, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of scheduled training, real-time monitoring of all active ranges, and the immediate dispatch of emergency services when required. The operator is the critical link between training units, Range Operations staff, and emergency response personnel, always ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.</p> <p>Essential Functions:</p> <ul> <li>Manage and deconflict daily range and training area schedules using the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) or equivalent scheduling software. </li><li>Verify that units have all required safety documentation, risk assessments, and qualified personnel prior to issuing a range. </li><li>Receive and process requests for range extensions, modifications, or cancellations. </li><li>Communicate with incoming units to confirm schedules, assigned facilities, and specific operational procedures for the day. </li><li>Maintain constant radio communication with all units and personnel operating within the RTA. </li><li>Authorize units to "go hot" (commence live-fire) and declare "cease-fire" conditions based on the daily schedule and real-time events. </li><li>Track the status and location of all personnel, vehicles, and aircraft within the training complex. </li><li>Monitor multiple radio nets, telephone lines, and real-time applicable computer systems. </li><li>Report and log all unexploded ordnance (UXO) or "dud" events and initiate appropriate safety procedures and notifications. </li><li>Receive and process all emergency calls, including medical emergencies (MEDEVAC), vehicle accidents, wildfires, and law enforcement incidents. </li><li>Dispatch Range Safety Officers, Fire/EMS, military police, and other emergency assets according to established Emergency Action Plans (EAPs). </li><li>Coordinate the medical evacuation process, including guiding MEDEVAC assets to the incident location using military grid coordinates. </li><li>Relay critical information between the incident scene and responding units, providing updates on patient status, hazards, and access routes. </li><li>Maintain a detailed, chronological log of all communications, safety incidents, unit activities, and significant events in the official Fire Desk Log. </li><li>Prepare and submit daily shift summary reports, incident reports, and other required documentation. </li><li>Monitor weather conditions and issue safety alerts for lightning, high winds, or other hazardous weather. </li><li>Operate and conduct checks on all communications equipment to ensure operational readiness. </li></ul> <p>This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge: Thorough understanding of range safety regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Familiarity with military terminology, organizational structure, and Army operations. Working knowledge of Emergency Action Plans and incident command principles. Skills: Proficiency in using radio communication systems (multi-channel, secure/unsecure). Experience with the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) is highly preferred. Competency with computer programs and records management software. Abilities: Ability to read and interpret maps, including proficiency with the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS). Ability to remain calm, focused, and make sound decisions in high-stress, rapidly evolving situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on clear, concise, and standardized radio-telephone procedures. Exceptional multitasking abilities and attention to detail.</p> <p>Education and Experience: A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of professional level experience for each year of the required education. Preferred areas of experience are prior military service, Range Operations, human resource administration or communications role. Experience as a 911 dispatcher, public safety telecommunicator, or air traffic controller is highly valued.
