Scrubs for procedures and assists in maintaining inventory and cleanliness of Operating Rooms. Assists the Professional Nurse in ensuring the maintenance of principles and practices of surgical processes within the Operating Room Suite.</p> <p>I. Major Responsibilities:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Using the principles of asepsis, prepares instruments, supplies and sutures for the procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Assists in properly positioning patient</p> </li><li> <p>Provides appropriate instrumentation and supplies to surgeon during procedures</p> </li><li> <p>Cleans and restocks the operating room according to departmental protocols</p> </li><li> <p>Washes and assembles instruments and supplies according to departmental protocols</p> </li><li> <p>Assembles and checks instrument and equipment functionality prior to procedure; follows up on repairs and replacements of instruments as requested.</p> </li><li> <p>Completes review of physician preference lists ensuring communication and validation of correct supplies and instruments for surgical procedure.</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluate the safe implementation of electrical equipment ensuring patient safety; follows all policy and procedures addressing patient safety.</p> </li><li> <p>Implements policy and procedures addressing all sponge, instruments, needles and materials counts.</p> </li><li> <p>Handles and processes pathology specimens, cultures, drugs and other items on the sterile field.</p> </li><li> <p>Keeps accurate counts of medications and irrigating solutions used during the surgical procedure.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains patient confidentiality.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs technical activities in an organized and timely manner.</p> </li><li> <p>Transports patients to and from the operating Room.</p> </li><li> <p>Precepts new orientees and students in Surgical Technologist program.</p> </li><li> <p>Performs other duties as may be assigned.</p> </li></ol> <p>II. Position Qualifications:</p> <p>License/Certification/Education:</p> <p>Required:</p> <ol> <li> <p>BLS Certification</p> </li><li> <p>Graduate of an approved Surgical Technologist program</p> </li></ol> <p>Preferred:</p> <ol> <li>Surgical Technologist certification preferred </li></ol> <p>Experience/Skills:</p> <p>Required:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Well organized and possess high degree of Manual Dexterity</p> </li><li> <p>3 years experience in a hospital-based surgical service</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service and communication skills required</p> </li></ol> <p>OR equivalent combination of the above</p> <p>Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.</p> <p>Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.</p> <p>III.
