<p>Summary</p> <p>Reports to the Practice Manager. The Perinatal Sonographer utilizes high frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the assessment of fetal anatomy, fetal growth, and fetal well-being. Performs ultrasound scans and procedures requiring independent judgment and a high degree of precision and skill in the application of ultrasound equipment. Follows protocols and procedures as directed by the Medical Director and/or Perinatal Sonographer Lead. Ensures quality patient care is provided. Be on their team.</p> </li></ul> <p>Performs ultrasound scans including OB/GYN, abdominal, Doppler and vascular scans using high frequency ultrasound equipment according to prescribed protocols, policies and procedures while ensuring quality patient care by:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Obtaining pertinent clinical history necessary for the physician to interpret the ultrasound, communicating with referring physicians and other health care personnel and calls in reports as required.</p> </li><li> <p>Explaining the procedure to the patient and/or family as needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Practicing sterile and isolation techniques to prevent contamination.</p> </li><li> <p>Assessing patient condition, reporting to physician or nurse as needed, performing CPR, and other supportive emergency procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Selecting various routine and special ultrasound transducers well as conductive gels and oils for each ultrasound procedure to exhibit the best resolution and minimize allergy or reaction.</p> </li><li> <p>Utilizing digital storage system</p> </li></ul> <p>Performs Perinatal Sonographer duties by:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Instructing patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure.</p> </li><li> <p>Assisting patient transfers to the exam table, ensuring adequate patient immobilization to perform the scan.</p> </li><li> <p>Adjusting the scanning parameters to improve scans.</p> </li><li> <p>Obtaining diagnostic sonographic images and provides documentation of ultrasound exam sufficient for physicians to interpret.</p> </li><li> <p>Assisting physicians with amniocentesis procedures with and without the use of a needle guide.</p> </li><li> <p>Performing Umbilical, Middle Cerebral Artery, and Ductus Venosus Doppler assessment when indicated.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrating the common markers of fetal aneuploidy.</p> </li><li> <p>Assisting with in-office procedures where ultrasound scans are essential.</p> </li><li> <p>Using highly specialized instruments and probes to perform accurate measurements, perhaps involving multiple gestation.</p> </li></ul> <p>Performs research and conference functions by:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Providing input and recommending to physician's various procedures and/or means of treating patients.</p> </li><li> <p>Developing and maintaining close affiliation and positive relationships with physicians and nurses to achieve goals and objectives for the practice.</p> </li><li> <p>Participating in student and physician education as needed.</p> </li></ul> <p>Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Maintaining proper inventory and condition of ultrasound supplies and equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Preparing reports and maintaining records of services rendered</p> </li><li> <p>Completing other job-related duties as assigned.</p> </li></ul> <p>ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <p>Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.</p> </li><li> <p>Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.</p> </li><li> <p>Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.</p> </li><li> <p>Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.</p> </li><li> <p>Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.</p> </li><li> <p>Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.</p> </li><li> <p>Complies with established organization and department policies.</p> </li><li> <p>Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.</p> </li></ul> <p>Commitment to Beacon's six-point Operating System, referred to as The Beacon Way:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Leverage innovation everywhere.</p> </li><li> <p>Cultivate human talent.</p> </li><li> <p>Embrace performance improvement.</p> </li><li> <p>Build greatness through accountability.</p> </li><li> <p>Use information to improve and advance.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate clearly and continuously.</p> </li></ul> <p>Education and Experience</p> <ul> <li>The knowledge, skills and abilities indicated below are normally acquired through graduation from high school or equivalent. A graduate from a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, which meets the requirements by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with an active OB/GYN RDMS certification, FMF 1st Trimester screening certification and Clear certification is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Two to three years of advanced ultrasound technologist experience is required. Preference will be given to a candidate with ultrasound technologist experience working with obstetric/high risk patients. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge & Skills</p> <ul> <li> <p>Demonstrates proficiency in Amniocentesis, Amnioreduction and Amnio Dye Study procedures.</p> </li><li> <p>Knows and can demonstrate the common markers of fetal aneuploidy.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to perform Umbilical, Middle Cerebral Artery, and Ductus Venosus Doppler assessment when indicated.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to perform the professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit of department.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficient in the diagnostic ultrasound procedures as outlined in practice protocol.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicates to patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to assist physicians with amniocentesis procedures with and without the use of a needle guide.</p> </li><li> <p>Understands correct procedures and coding for obstetrical ultrasound.</p> </li><li> <p>Requires the ability to perform fetal echo-cardiology testing the general knowledge of various maternal conditions, i.e, chronic hypertension, diabetes, etc.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates analytical skills necessary to evaluate information and records utilizing measurable and verifiable criteria to meet standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates high level of communication skills necessary to exchange information with families and/or other parties to ensure proper positioning of patients with the least amount of discomfort</p> </li><li> <p>Requires the ability to understand oral and written instructions stated in radiographic and medical terms.</p> </li><li> <p>Requires basic computer skills to utilize ultrasound reporting software, image storage, and practice EMR.</p> </li><li> <p>Requires the manual dexterity necessary to adjust machine controls or change, attach or adjust devices or accessories.</p> </li><li> <p>Requires ability to utilize highly specialized instruments and probes to perform accurate measurements, perhaps involving multiple gestation.</p> </li><li> <p>Requires well developed interpersonal skills necessary to communicate in a tactful, sincere and professional manner with patients/families, physicians, visitors, and others.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be available to participate in an on-call weekend rotation with other Perinatal I & II Sonographers, as per practice requirements.</p> </li></ul> <p>Working Conditions</p> <p>Physical Demands</p> <ul> <li>Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position. </li></ul>
