<p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>Organization's Summary Statement:</p> <p>The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Sciences; Extension; and Agriculture Experiment Station seek applications and nominations for the Assistant or Associate Professor in Animal Science position. This position is a nine-month, tenure-track appointment. The anticipated starting date for this position is fall 2025.</p> <p>UMES offers exciting opportunities for professional growth. The department is actively engaged in teaching, research, and extension and has many faculty and staff with split appointments with UMES Extension and UMES Agriculture Experiment Station. This position will be 50% Teaching, 25% Research, and 25% Extension.</p> <p>University Information: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is the 1890-Land-Grant University in Maryland, located in a rural setting on the Delmarva Peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. The major metropolitan areas of Washington D.C., Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA, are within easy travel distance</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <p>The primary areas of instruction are courses in animal and poultry science concentration at the undergraduate and graduate level. This will include livestock production and management classes and other courses in the applicant's area of expertise. The incumbent will oversee the operation of the University's small ruminant facilities. The research and extension areas are open but should include sheep and goat topics relevant to the needs of the State, Region, and Nation. The incumbent will be expected to cooperate with the University of Maryland Extension (UME) in statewide small ruminant and program activities. Additional duties include:</p> <ul> <li>Teach, conduct research and extension. </li><li>Engage in university, department, and community service. </li><li>Advise students. </li><li>Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research. </li><li>Provide academic advice and mentor undergraduates. </li><li>Develop externally funded grants to support research and extension </li></ul> <p>activities.</p> <ul> <li>Participate in recruitment and retention activities. </li><li>Perform other assigned duties as appropriate. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Ph.D. in Animal Science or a closely related discipline. </li><li>Applicants must demonstrate strong evidence of scholarly activity, </li></ul> <p>Extension program implementation, and research productivity.</p> <ul> <li>Must have experience in grantsmanship. </li><li>Teaching experience and a commitment to continuously improving </li></ul> <p>assigned courses and laboratories, including designing and developing</p> <p>educational support materials.</p> <p>Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to interact productively with others in a diverse setting, including </li></ul> <p>excellent oral and written communication skills</p> <p>Physical Demands:</p> <ul> <li>May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk. </li><li>May require lifting up to 25 lbs. </li><li>Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and </li></ul> <p>internally.</p> <ul> <li>Requires operation of a variety of office equipment. </li></ul> <p>Additional Job Details</p> <p>Required Application Materials: Qualified candidates must submit a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, statement of research experience and interests, unofficial transcripts, and the names of three current professional references, including e-mail address and telephone number.
