<p>The Wardman Library at Whittier College is seeking a Student Success and Outreach Librarian.</p> <p>The Student Success and Outreach Librarian supports student learning, engagement, and retention by providing instruction, research assistance, and outreach. This position is responsible for developing and leading library instruction sessions, workshops, and orientations, with a focus on first-year, transfer, and international students. The librarian collaborates with faculty, student support services, and campus departments to integrate information literacy into coursework, promote library resources, and coordinate outreach initiatives that enhance student engagement. They also serve as a library liaison to academic departments based on their expertise and background, ensuring library collections and services align with faculty and student needs. Additional responsibilities include overseeing library fines in coordination with the business office and participating in collaborative library projects with other staff and campus committees. This role requires working both independently and collaboratively to support student success and advance library and institutional goals.</p> <p>Hours: Monday-Friday</p> <p>Exempt Status: Exempt</p> <p>Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time</p> <p>Salary Range: $71,000 annually; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.</p> <p>Reports to: Library Director</p> <p>Location/Department: Whittier College (Main Campus)/Wardman Library</p> <p>Position Duties & Responsibilities</p> <p>Essential Functions of the job</p> <p>Library Instruction & Student Support</p> <ul> <li>Develop and lead library instruction sessions, workshops, and orientations for first-year, transfer, and international students. </li><li>Provide reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff. </li><li>Create and maintain instructional materials such as LibGuides, and other supplementary instructional material. </li><li>Collaborate with faculty to integrate library resources, research skills, and information literacy into courses across disciplines and assignments. </li><li>Support and promote Open Educational Resources (OER) and affordable learning initiatives. </li></ul> <p>Outreach, Promotion & Campus Collaboration</p> <ul> <li>Coordinate outreach initiatives to promote library resources, services, and student success programs. </li><li>Represent the library at campus events, orientations, and student programs. </li><li>Develop partnerships with student support services, academic departments, and other campus groups to enhance library visibility. </li><li>Organize library events and programming with library staff, campus departments, student organizations, and faculty, in collaboration with the library Administrative Office Assistant. </li><li>Participate in campus committees and cross-departmental collaborations to support student success initiatives. </li><li>Work with the library staff to promote and market instruction and engagement programming. </li><li>Design, develop, and assess online instructional materials to support the libraries instruction program. </li></ul> <p>Collection Development & Liaison Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Manage collection development in assigned subject areas and serve as a liaison to academic departments, ensuring alignment with faculty and student needs. </li><li>Maintain and update the LibGuide for these subject areas to support research and learning. </li><li>Contribute to library-wide projects and committees to support the library's mission. </li></ul> <p>Additional Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Oversee the library's fines and fees system in coordination with the business office, communicating with college patrons and resolving discrepancies. </li><li>Assist with Link+ and Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests to facilitate access to external resources. </li><li>Demonstrates a commitment to working in a culturally diverse environment. </li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills </li><li>Ability to work a flexible schedule, including one weeknight for Information Desk duties, as needed. </li><li>Other duties as assigned to meet the mission and strategic planning objectives of the College. </li></ul> <p>Non-essential Functions of the Job</p> <p>None identified at this time.</p> <p>Position Specifications and Requirements</p> <p>Previous Experience: Two years of professional Library experience, academic preferred; Experience cataloging various materials, expertise with metadata standards, Library of Congress Classification System, and the Library of Congress Subject Headings.</p> <p>Knowledge and Education: ALA-accredited MLIS or equivalent Library degree.</p> <p>Application Deadline: Until the position is filled.</p> <p>The position is based in Whittier, California.
