<p>Located at Miami Valley Hospital in the Blood Transfusion Services Department (Dayton, OH)</p> <p>Part-time Day Shift (6:30am to 3:00pm), working 32 hours a pay period (2 weeks) with every other rotating weekend rotation.</p> <p>Summary:</p> <p>Perform various tasks in the Blood Transfusion Service department to assist technical staff accurately and efficiently generate test results. These tasks may include, but are not limited to quality control, specimen handling and preparation, as well as assisting with testing and reporting.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Operate laboratory instrumentation independently including complex troubleshooting and scheduling field service calls as deemed necessary following the directions of department laboratory professional and pathology staff. </li><li>Understand all menu pathways of local computer system as it pertains to assigned job function including instructing technical staff on advanced computer functions. </li><li>Handling client related questions and concerns in a courteous and efficient manner following department policies and procedures including the scheduling of complex texting. </li><li>Perform specimen handling, control, and tracking functions, which may include the handling of potentially infectious/carcinogenic materials. </li><li>Track, inventory, and order supplies as needed. </li><li>Submit credit requests and interpretation fees, scan raw data, and retrieve patient reports as directed. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent required. </li><li>Associate degree preferred in Natural Science/Allied Health or current enrollment in Medical Laboratory Science program. </li><li>Position requires a high level of attention to detail. </li><li>Must be able to lift approximately 40 pounds. </li><li>Laboratory experience preferred. </li><li>Medical terminology and keyboarding skills helpful. </li><li>Knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred. </li></ul> <p>Physical & Safety Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Hand-finger dexterity to collect and process specimens. </li><li>Ability to work in an environment where standing prolonged amounts of time may be required. </li><li>Comprehension of verbal and written directions. </li><li>Concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted. </li><li>Ability to work within specified deadlines and timetables. </li><li>Excellent communication and people skills. </li><li>Must be able to work well under pressure or in stressful circumstances. </li><li>Will have exposure to biohazard substances and hazardous chemicals </li><li>Be familiar with and adhere to safety, ergonomic and health policies of the Company. </li><li>Comply with all PPE requirements when in the laboratory or other biohazard areas. </li><li>Complete required training and health evaluations in a timely manner. </li><li>Anticipate safety hazards, act upon unsafe situations and promote safety awareness. </li></ul>
