Union AFSCME</p> <p>Posting Detail Information</p> <p>Job Summary/Basic Function</p> <p>About the position:</p> <p>The Audio Visual (AV) Technician's role is to support and maintain in-house audio-visual equipment and non-print media assets. This includes operating, maintaining, distributing, installing, configuring, repairing, and upgrading various electronic products while ensuring their optimal performance. Individuals from traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Strategy & Planning:</p> <ul> <li>Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future AV equipment and University technology needs. </li><li>Document proper AV practices and procedures. </li></ul> <p>Acquisition & Deployment:</p> <ul> <li>Maintain up-to-date knowledge of AV equipment contracts and supervise contract-based installations. </li><li>Advise on the purchase of new AV equipment; assist with its installation. </li><li>Conduct research on, and make recommendations for, AV products in support of procurement and development efforts. </li></ul> <p>Operational Management:</p> <ul> <li>Set up, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot teleconferencing equipment, multimedia devices, televisions, monitors, projectors, recording equipment, speaker sets, , and other AV equipment. </li><li>Provide event support including sound reinforcement, stage lighting, video projection, livestreaming, and recording. </li><li>Coordinate with event organizers, faculty, and staff to plan and execute AV needs for academic and non-academic events. </li><li>Provide on-site technical assistance during classroom instruction, meetings, and special events. </li><li>Receive and respond to incoming calls, tickets, and/or e-mails regarding events or AV software/hardware problems. </li><li>Perform onsite analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex AV hardware problems and recommend and implement corrective solutions, including offsite repair as needed. </li><li>Perform regular preventive maintenance on AV systems, including cleaning, testing, firmware updates, and calibration of equipment. </li><li>Collaborate with IT and Facilities teams to support integration of AV systems into campus infrastructure. </li><li>Document instances of AV equipment failure, repair, installation, and removal. </li><li>Build and maintain a spare parts inventory for all AV equipment. </li><li>Transport AV equipment throughout facility using a motorized pallet jack or handcart. </li><li>Tag or label AV equipment owned by the organization; periodically audit inventories to mitigate risk of damage or theft. </li><li>Ensure compliance with university safety standards when installing or operating AV equipment. </li><li>All other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li> <p>Four years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and operation of electronic equipment and systems and graduation from high school or vocational school, with successful completion of an approved electronic/AV course of study, OR graduation from a two-year college with major course work in electronics. Additional formal training in electronics/AV may be substituted year-for-year for experience up to a maximum of one year. OR An equivalent combination of experience and training.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent technical knowledge of teleconferencing, presentation, and other AV hardware.</p> </li><li> <p>Comprehensive hands-on AV equipment support and troubleshooting experience.</p> </li><li> <p>Good knowledge of current network protocols, operating systems, software, and standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Mechanically inclined.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience:</p> </li><li> <p>operating tools, components, and peripheral accessories.</p> </li><li> <p>reading and understanding technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.</p> </li><li> <p>conduct research into hardware products and issues as required.</p> </li><li> <p>prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.</p> </li><li> <p>Self motivated and directed.</p> </li><li> <p>Keen attention to detail.</p> </li><li> <p>Analytical and problem-solving abilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment</p> </li><li> <p>On-call availability.</p> </li><li> <p>Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication & customer service skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.</p> </li><li> <p>Commitment to inclusive practices and working with diverse student populations.</p> </li><li> <p>Valid driver's license.</p> </li><li> <p>Successful interview.</p> </li><li> <p>Successful completion of three background checks.</p> </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications Essential Functions</p> <p>Please Note: These duties are to be performed with or without an accommodation.
