<p>About us:</p> <p>Heinzerling Community has been providing exceptional care for over 60 years to hundreds of children and adults with severe and profound developmental disabilities.</p> <p>At Heinzerling Community, we are committed to providing top-quality care and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities. With a focus on person-centered approaches and community integration, we strive to create a fulfilling and an enriching experience for those we serve.</p> <p>The Wheelchair Technician assists the Therapy Department with fitting, constructing, modifying, maintaining and repairing seating systems and wheelchair frames in collaboration with licensed therapist(s).</p> <p>Job duties include, but are not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>Assist therapist with seating assessment by providing technical expertise of wheelchair frame models and seating products. Participates in the assessment process, along with therapist and physiatrist, at seating clinics. </li><li>Works with wheelchair manufacturers and vendors to combine equipment features to meet specific resident needs. </li><li>Constructs planar and custom molded seating systems per therapist assessment and physician order. </li><li>Modifies seating systems as needed per therapist assessment and direction. </li><li>Performs routine maintenance and repair of seating systems, wheelchair frames and other equipment, such as standers, bicycles, walkers and gait-trainers. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds regularly and push individuals who weigh up to 200 pounds in wheelchairs. </li><li>Must be able to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear. </li><li>Must be able to stay awake for the entire shift. </li><li>Rehabilitation Technology Specialist Certificate preferred. </li><li>Must have six months to one year of related experience and/or training. </li><li>Must be able to add, subtract, divide and multiple in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. </li></ul> <p>Other Skills and abilities required:</p> <p>Basic knowledge of the following areas as they relate to the need for, and application of, enabling technology:</p> <ul> <li>Gross musculoskeletal anatomy </li><li>Normal and abnormal neurodevelopment </li><li>Neuromuscular abnormalities </li><li>Disabling conditions and disease processes </li><li>Secondary complications to long term disability </li><li>Biomechanical principles, concepts and applications </li></ul> <p>Basic computer knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and email.
