<p>BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB</p> <p>Oversees department aspects of the health-system's pharmacy operations (inpatient services, outpatient services, and/or clinical services). The Manager is responsible for daily operation, including strategic planning, day-to-day operations, pharmaceutical care, clinical and distributive services, financial management, licensure, and regulatory responsibility when applicable, and personnel management. The individual in this position leads the members of the team to ensure that all patients' needs for pharmaceutical services, both clinical and distributive, are met. Continually evaluates the programs for growth opportunities to support patient care needs across the enterprise. Monitors the quality of services provided; assures compliance with practice standards; audits the revenue cycle; and develops and implements the department's goals.</p> <p>REPORTS TO</p> <ul> <li>Director-Pharmacy </li></ul> <p>JOB REQUIREMENTS</p> <p>Supervisory Responsibilities: YES</p> <p>Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy; PharmD degree preferred.</p> <p>License/Certification Required: Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Tennessee with license in good standing.</p> <p>Minimum Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of management or related experience; minimum of 5 years work experience in designated role.</p> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Professional and effective verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Strong customer service orientation and placing priority on serving the needs of patients and families. </li><li>Demonstrate ability to multitask, set priorities and work accurately and independently. </li><li>Demonstrate ability to direct and supervise pharmacy staff, residents, interns, technicians, etc. </li><li>Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with a diverse population. </li><li>Participates in and supports professional organizations. </li><li>Routine medication verification within EMR (keyboarding). </li><li>Requires the ability to continually change priorities in response to changing patient needs. </li><li>Requires the ability to work in an environment of constant interruptions. </li><li>Requires the maintaining of a knowledge base of current medications, drug therapies and distribution services. </li><li>Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards governing the practice of pharmacy. </li></ul> <p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Operations: Plans, organizes, and supervises all functions of the pharmacy department in such a manner to assure that services are sufficient to meet the needs of patients as determined by the Director of Pharmacy, medical staff, and administration. Responsible for oversight of clinical decision-making aspects of the program and provides clinical guidance to all applicable staff. Provides quality pharmacy services and collaborates with physicians, nurses, other health care professionals as well as the patient/caregiver to deliver safe and optimal patient care for best outcomes. Provides superb customer service and communication as needed to expedite processing of patient orders. Provides drug information and/or presents educational programs to healthcare professionals and patients. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with medical staff to ensure optimization of medication use, storage, and delivery process. Resolves questions with other pharmacists, service lines and/or physicians. Answers the phone promptly and appropriately. Promotes and maintains professional relationships with other departments. Orients new and existing employees. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Maintain knowledge in the duties and responsibilities of managed department. </li><li>Financial Management: Assists with budget creation and maintenance for the pharmacy department and associated cost centers. Collaborates with key financial stakeholders to ensure revenue integrity. Maintains fiscal responsibility for managed cost centers. Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably. Supervises purchasing to maintain sufficient levels of inventory while achieving acceptable rates of inventory turn. Effectively manages high-cost therapies. Supervises submission of patient charges and financial reports. </li><li>Data Management: Presents data in the appropriate format for the specific audience. Proactively communicates anomalies and variances with budget, purchasing, workload, or compliance data then formulates and implements a plan for corrective actions. Provides oversight for data management responsibilities for direct reports. Provide continuous updates for department's key metrics. </li><li>Compliance/Regulatory Affairs: Maintain compliance with pharmacy regulatory requirements and standards of practice. Assists in maintaining, interpreting, and evaluating pharmacy programs and policies and procedures following Federal, State and TJC guidelines. Responsible for training, supervising, educating other staff members and disciplines. Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of and conforming to legal requirements concerning the distribution of drugs, as well as good working knowledge of recent developments in the field of pharmacy (continuing education by attending available conferences, meetings, and seminars). Assures adequate control and documentation of controlled substances. </li><li>Leadership: Develop and maintain ongoing competence for the pharmacy department. Takes initiative for self-development and acquiring new knowledge related to pharmacy and healthcare. Lead and/or participate in assigned committees. Assists in development and maintenance of a medical staff approved formulary. Assists with short and long-term strategic planning for the pharmacy service lines and makes connections to the overall organization's strategic plan. Assesses future opportunities to expand pharmacy services and make recommendations to senior management. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested. </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. </li><li>Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 10-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending and reaching is required.
