<p>IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION COORDINATOR</p> <p>Alexander Central High School</p> <p>Permanent 10-month full-time position with benefits</p> <p>General Statement of Job</p> <p>Provides support by monitoring and assisting students in the In-School Suspension setting. A wide variety of tasks are performed to support teachers in the teaching-learning process for students, which may include assisting with technology.</p> <p>Required qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Associate Degree or 48 semester hours towards an associate degree, preferred. </li><li>Applicant must hold a valid NC state driver's license. </li><li>Applicant must be eligible to obtain a CDL with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. If an employee is unable to obtain a CDL with P/S endorsements for any reason, this could result in recommendation for dismissal. </li></ul> <p>Essential duties and responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Provide supervision for students who are assigned to ISS. </li><li>Review In-School Suspension policies, procedures, and student expectations with students daily. </li><li>Work with students and/or other staff members on issues such as behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in student being assigned to ISS. </li><li>Monitor all ISS assignments; provide encouragement and feedback to students; monitor tests and computer work; provide instructional assistance as appropriate. </li><li>Ensure students have security escorts to lavatory facilities and other areas in the school building. </li><li>Email teachers in advance for work requests and complete student Work Completion Logs for students assigned to ISS. </li><li>Facilitate and arrange delivery of student lunches when necessary. </li><li>Refer behavior problems to school administrators. </li><li>Constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students. </li><li>Monitor student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom; assists with crisis prevention; restrains students as needed. </li><li>Obtain CPI training from district trainers. </li><li>Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instruction; provides one-on-one assistance as needed. </li><li>Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information. </li><li>Praises and reinforces achievement of students; promotes self-esteem. </li><li>Performs general housekeeping duties in maintaining an orderly classroom. </li><li>Maintains reports and records as assigned by teacher/supervisor. </li><li>Drives a bus route or substitutes for a driver as assigned or requested by the supervisor/designee. </li><li>All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. </li></ul> <p>Note: The above description of duties indicates the general nature and level of work performed. It is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all duties or responsibilities required of employees in this job.</p> <p>Essential knowledge and abilities</p> <ul> <li>Employee should have knowledge of school and classroom rules, procedures, and practices. </li><li>Employee must have the ability to interpret and establish appropriate rules, methods, and techniques in maintaining a disciplined academic environment. </li><li>Applicant must have strong interpersonal skills and patience. </li><li>Experience working with students and knowledge of conflict resolution techniques is strongly encouraged. </li><li>Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations. </li><li>Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology. </li><li>Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. </li><li>Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, etc. </li><li>Requires the ability to learn about assisting with technology needs. </li><li>Must be able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly.
