<p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Department of Emergency Medicine is looking to hire a highly-motivated research specialist to join the Max Harry Weil institute for Critical Care Research and Innovation's preclinical research team. This position is with a preclinical science and translational research team that focuses on management and treatment strategies for the critically ill and injured. Specific areas of interest and current focus include but are not limited to the development of pre-clinical models of hemorrhagic shock, sudden cardiac arrest, traumatic brain injury, sepsis, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. The applicant will work closely with Director of the Weil Institute pre-clinical laboratory, the laboratory manager, and several research faculty and other research staff at the North Campus Research Complex (NCRC).</p> <p>Responsibilities*</p> <p>This role will handle, monitor, and provide medical support to animals during experimental procedures, perform biological sample collection, testing, and biobanking, and maintain detailed procedural records and post-operative charts. Some benchtop work will be required. They will have an active role in the design, execution, and outcome assessment of experiments on the animals. This role will be able to evaluate results and recommend improvements in research design and modeling. This role has a specialized focus, involving anesthesia, surgery, animal handling, and detailed procedural record maintenance. Additionally, the specialist will take responsibility for providing technical assistance in operating and maintaining the instrumentation and other research equipment with the lab. Other regular duties also include maintaining the laboratory and equipment, autoclaving supplies, ordering supplies, and data collection/management. The candidate must work effectively in a team setting and autonomously, and must communicate effectively.</p> <p>Required Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in related field </li><li>1-2 year of experience in large animal research. Animal research experience should include surgical experience, anesthesia and ventilator management, drug handling/administration, and hands on physiological adjustments. </li></ul> <p>The appropriate candidate must possess excellent organizational, multitasking, and communication skills, as well as the ability to function both independantly and as part of a highly cohesive team. Basic computing skills and proficiency with the use of basic software such as microsoft office (word, excel, etc.) is required. The candidate must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional evening and overnight shift availibility will be required.</p> <p>Desired Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree </li><li>2+ years experience working with large animals in a medical or laboratory setting. </li><li>Experience or knowledge in veterinary medicine, experience with animal surgery and anesthesia management, and post-operative animal care is required. </li><li>The successful candidate will have excellent organizational and time management skills, good communication skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and strong enthusiasm for developing new skills and expertise. </li><li>The candidate must have the ability to lift up to 50Kg. </li><li>Occasional evening and overnight shift availability will be required. </li></ul> <p>Work Schedule</p> <p>Full time, Monday thru Friday. The schedule is variable with some night, evening, and weekend shifts expected depending on the requirements of the study being performed.</p> <p>Modes of Work</p> <p>Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
