<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Bloomfield Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Instructional Assistant for Special Education at Metacomet Elementary.</p> <p>Department/Assigned School: Metacomet Elementary</p> <p>Reports to: Director/Asst. Director Student Support Services/Building Principal</p> <p>Bargaining unit: BFEP</p> <p>Work year: 2025/26 School year (Summer hours may be available)</p> <p>Essential Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Reinforce academic instruction, previously taught by the teacher, to students. </li><li>Monitor student behavior and respond appropriately. </li><li>Implement modifications and accommodations made to student's curriculum and learning environment. </li><li>Assist classroom/supervising teacher in maintaining daily classroom routines and discipline. </li><li>Participate in mandated professional development activities provided by SSS Department and/or Board of Education including but not limited to Mandated Reporter Training, Physical Management Training (PMT), and Collaborative Proactive Solutions (CPS). </li><li>Perform non-instructional duties (e.g., lunch, recess, changing etc.) as directed. </li><li>Provide physical support for physically and emotionally disabled students. </li><li>Assist students in performing personal hygiene tasks. </li><li>Implement prescriptive Behavior Intervention Plans. </li><li>Take direction from Supervising Teacher and/or SET, BCBA and administrators. </li><li>Perform other appropriate duties as may be assigned. </li></ul> <p>Education and/or Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Associate's degree, 60 college credits or have passed the Para Pro Exam. </li></ul> <p>Other Skills and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Exhibit understanding, patience, and a positive attitude with children. </li><li>Ability to carry out written and oral instructions. </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors. </li><li>Communicate clearly and courteously, both orally and in writing. </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. *</p> <ul> <li>Regularly required to move from location to another location. </li><li>Ability to run, walk, sit, stand, and remain alert on a daily basis. </li><li>Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds. </li></ul> <p>EOE</p>
