<p>Position Type:</p> <p>School Support and Services/School Safety Officer</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>7/28/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>BDJ Multi-Magnet Middle School Campus</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Principal or his/her designee</p> <p>PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Annually by the Principal or his/her designee</p> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month position, 35-hour work week. Salary determined by the Board of Education.</p> <p>PRIMARY FUNCTION: To foster positive relationships between youth and school administrators/personnel. The position acts as a visible, active, enforcement officer in the school dealing with security matters inside and outside the school building.</p> <p>TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Maintains safety and security of school buildings, grounds and facilities </li><li>Patrols campus perimeter, lunch areas, hallways, classrooms, locker rooms, rest rooms, gates, parking lots and bus stops; maintain order and security of facility; escort student to office for action as needed, report unusual activities or unauthorized persons </li><li>Assist visitors to facilities, approaches visitors and suspicious or unauthorized individuals and determine reasons for being on school grounds; detain or report individuals suspected or guilty of illegal or prohibited activity according to established procedures </li><li>Enforce school rules, regulations and policies for the safety and security of students, staff, cars and property. Enforce appropriate restrictions and regulations </li><li>Observe students during periods between classes; prevent unauthorized departure from school premises </li><li>Maintains records of contacts and activities </li><li>Reports incidents and observations to appropriate school or law enforcement authorities. Works cooperatively with law enforcement agencies on violation of school policies, local, state and federal laws </li><li>Observe and report student behavior to assure compliance with school rules; determine need for referrals according to guidelines </li><li>Operate a communication device, i.e. radio, as designed </li><li>Reports to administrator any building conditions or practices that interfere with security maintenance in the building or on the grounds </li><li>Acts as liaison between students including utilizing de-escalation strategies when appropriate </li><li>Attend staff and other meetings or in-service as assigned </li><li>Able to meet the physical demands to successfully perform the essential functions of this job </li><li>Performs such other related tasks as the principal may from time to time assign </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Experience with diverse student populations </li><li>Ability to interact in an appropriate and professional manner with students, the general public, and staff </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Civil Service or Law Enforcement experience </li><li>Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Social Services or related field </li><li>Bilingual or multilingual highly desirable </li></ul> <p>New London Public School District is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.</p> <p>Candidates from diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.</p>
