<p>Description</p> <p>The City of Danbury is announcing an Open Competitive Exam for the position of</p> <p>Public Safety Technology Specialist</p> <p>Summary</p> <p>The Public Safety Systems Administrator for Information Technology Services will work under the general supervision of the Director of IT and is responsible for GIS Services Support for all City of Danbury departments and the hands-on administration & support of technology used in all Public Safety departments (Police, Fire, EMS) and City Departments. This includes supporting dispatch systems, enterprise applications, server systems, rugged mobile computers in vehicles, network switch infrastructure, computers and cell phones/tablets. Works with the City's IT Infrastructure team and escalates critical items to this team if assistance is needed.</p> <p>This position must be available to provide on-call after-hours support for Public Safety departments as required.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Support of City GIS systems and connected systems</p> </li><li> <p>Development of GIS layers as needed</p> </li><li> <p>Deployment of new smart phones and tablets</p> </li><li> <p>Execution of GIS and Address related changes in enterprise systems</p> </li><li> <p>Administration and hands-on support of the city's public safety IT Infrastructure, including but not limited to:</p> </li><li> <p>911 Computer Aided Dispatch Systems</p> </li><li> <p>enterprise application systems</p> </li><li> <p>Server & Storage Area Network Systems</p> </li><li> <p>Microsoft Active Directory System</p> </li><li> <p>Horizon View Virtual Desktop System</p> </li><li> <p>Work on IT Projects assigned, supervising vendor resources as needed, keeping stakeholders and Director of Technology Services informed regularly of status.</p> </li><li> <p>As needed, supervise Vendor resources in completion of IT Infrastructure support responsibilities.</p> </li><li> <p>Conduct maintenance and repair on various IT Infrastructure systems, these may include: computer servers, computer network hardware systems, voice or data network communication systems, and information technology security systems/firewalls.</p> </li><li> <p>Work with and supervise vendor partners/resources as needed to implement repairs.</p> </li><li> <p>Work with the city's IT Infrastructure Support team on deployment, programming adjustment, and integration of network and server systems.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide on-call 24/7 support as required during system outages</p> </li><li> <p>Test IT Infrastructure component performance and provide performance statistics and reports; develop strategies for maintaining and improving IT Infrastructure performance.</p> </li><li> <p>As needed provide detailed IT related training for Public Safety staff.</p> </li><li> <p>Engage in General IT Support as needed.</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications/Requirements</p> <p>Education</p> <p>High School Diploma/Equivalent required.</p> <p>Professional Certifications for GIS and IT Support (examples: CCNA, COMPTIA Network+) preferred</p> <p>Experience</p> <p>5 years of work experience in the integration and support of IT Infrastructure Hardware & Software Systems in a Public Safety environment including: GIS changes, Computer Aided Dispatch System Upgrades.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Must have experience with VMware, Microsoft Server and Microsoft Active Directory.</p> </li><li> <p>Must have GIS experience. Experience needs to include:</p> </li><li> <p>Working with ESRI ArcGIS platform</p> </li><li> <p>Creation of GIS layers</p> </li><li> <p>Publishing GIS Layers in ARCGIS Online</p> </li><li> <p>Must have experience with 911 Computer Dispatch Systems (NEXGEN experience is required)</p> </li><li> <p>Must have experience with Apple MDM</p> </li><li> <p>Must have experience with enterprise level application support</p> </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skill and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to train end users on the use of IT systems. </li><li>Ability to coordinate application integration projects. </li><li>Ability to work with and manage vendor partners to accomplish integration or/and support of enterprise level application or infrastructure systems. </li><li>Highly proficient with Microsoft Office including advanced Excel functions such as macros and pivot tables. </li><li>Ability to provide general IT Support. </li><li>Strong oral and written communications skills. </li><li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team. </li><li>Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. </li><li>Ability to balance and prioritize multiple demands and deadlines. </li><li>Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. </li><li>Excellent communication skills; including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely across multiple audiences and partners, including the ability to explain analytical outcomes and technical roadblocks in business terms. </li><li>Ability to work well under pressure, with proven experience working on complex, international, large-scale, time-critical projects. </li><li>Ability to be flexible and versatile in nature, able to take on challenges while maintaining tact and professionalism. </li></ul> <p>Special Requirements:</p> <p>Must be available to work on site, Full time</p> <p>Be on the 24/7 on-call roster as a resource for Public Safety IT Infrastructure and Applications Systems support.</p> <p>Supervision Required:</p> <p>The Public Safety Systems Administrator for Information Technology Services will be under the general supervision of the Director of Technology Services or their designee for Public Safety IT the Public Safety Technology Manager.</p> <p>Application Information</p> <p>Application Submission:</p> <p>Applications must be submitted online atwww.danbury-ct.gov/employment.Qualified applicants must submit an applicationno later than 11:59 pm, Thursday, June 19th, 2025. The Commission will review all the applications for the position during their bi-weekly meetings following the closing date of the position.</p> <p>If an application is accepted by the Civil Service Commission, then the applicant will be notified in writing and will be informed of the next step in the process. If the Commission does not accept an application, the applicant will also be notified in writing.</p> <ol start="2"> <li>Testing </li></ol> <p>Once an application is accepted by the Civil Service Commission, the applicant will be notified in writing of the next steps in the testing process. Each test phase must be passed in order to continue to the next level of the selection process. The examination for this position will consist of the following parts:</p> <p>PARTS WEIGHT</p> <p>ORAL EXAM 100%</p> <p>It is the applicant's responsibility to adhere to the City's testing schedule. The rank on this list is established according to the scores on the exam(s) indicated above plus any additional applicable seniority points awarded. The resulting list is then certified by the Civil Service Commission and will be used to fill vacancies as they occur, as per Civil Service Rules.</p> <p>If the list is not exhausted, it remains in effect for one year. However, the Commission can decide to extend an eligibility list for one additional year.</p> <p>Participation in the testing and recruitment process and/or placement on an eligibility list does not guarantee a continuance in the remainder of the hiring process nor does it imply or constitute an offer of employment.</p> <ol start="4"> <li>Additional Testing Requirements </li></ol> <p>Once the eligibility list is certified, depending on the number of vacancies, candidates with the highest ranking on the list will be interviewed by a panel of City Officials. As future positions become available, applicants are interviewed from this list based on their ranking for as long as the list is active.</p>
