<p>Position Type:</p> <p>Special Services</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>2/24/2026</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>TBD</p> <p>Date Available:</p> <p>2026-2027</p> <p>Closing Date:</p> <p>03/10/2026</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Special Education TRP Mentor Teacher</p> <p>In partnering with CREC and the RESC Alliance in the CT Teacher Residency Program, Naugatuck School District establishes the position of Special Education TRP Mentor Teacher in accordance with the CT TRP requirements and will be described as follows:</p> <p>The Special Education Mentor Teacher, will have the following qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Is a Special Education Teacher in grades K-12 (is not a departmentalized classroom) </li><li>Is a trained TEAM Mentor </li><li>Has 5 years teaching experience and at least 3 years experience in the partner district and is effective in the following pre-program competencies: </li><li>Creates relationships with students and parents </li><li>Uses various strategies to create a positive learning environment </li><li>Uses time management strategies </li><li>Holds all students to high expectations </li><li>Plans lessons using culturally responsive pedagogy and practices to support all learners </li><li>Effectively assesses and gives feedback </li><li>Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness </li><li>Effectively reflects on planning, teaching, and assessment </li><li>Establishes positive relationships with all staff </li><li>Effectively collaborates with and supports peers </li><li>Determines solutions to problems </li><li>Committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in education </li></ul> <p>The Special Education Mentor Teacher will adhere to the following program time commitment:</p> <ul> <li>Work with the Year 1 Special Education Resident in their classroom during the contractual school day for the school year </li><li>Meet with resident teacher prior to the school year (for up to 8 hours) and weekly after school (for up to 2 hours per week) </li><li>Meet with the program coach monthly to discuss resident progress </li><li>Attend up to 8 monthly mentor training meetings </li></ul> <p>The Special Education Mentor Teacher will have the following responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Attend orientation and up to eight days of Mentor teacher training </li><li>Model exemplary classroom practices related to planning, the classroom environment, instruction, and assessment </li><li>Release full responsibility for all aspects of classroom instruction to your resident over the course of the residency </li><li>Use coaching strategies to support residents in all aspects of the residency </li><li>Observe, evaluate and reflect with the Year 1 Resident </li><li>Support the Year 1 Resident in completing edTPA portfolio elements and in preparing the Resident for assessments for certification A full description of expectations for Mentors can be found here. </li></ul> <p>The Mentor Teacher will be compensated in two installments equaling $6000 for one year. In the event that a Resident withdraws from the program or the Mentor is not able to complete the year with the residents, the Mentor Teacher will be compensated a pro-rated stipend based on date of withdrawal.</p>
