<p>Compensation Range</p> <p>$28.73 - $37.35</p> <ul> <li>- </li></ul> <p>Job Description Summary</p> <p>Perform as part of a team to build and maintain roadways and bridges throughout Weld County while operating heavy or light construction equipment. This position can be assigned to any division as needed in Public Works.</p> <ul> <li>- </li></ul> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Field Work - 80%</p> <ul> <li>Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of heavy equipment, machinery, trucks, tools in construction and repair activities, and will be required to perform a certain amount of manual labor. </li><li>Must have basic knowledge of road construction/road maintenance procedures. </li><li>Must be able to perform work without direction or immediate supervision and follow detailed instruction to aid in the efficient and effective completion of the project or assigned task. </li><li>Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner. </li><li>Must be able to effectively communicate verbally through radio. </li><li>When contact with the public is required, the employee must maintain a courteous, helpful attitude. </li><li>Must be able to follow instructions from senior employees. </li></ul> <p>Administration - 10%</p> <ul> <li>Must have basic computer skills and the ability to report/record data as per departmental requirements. </li><li>Ability to write, read and comprehend single instructions, short correspondence, and memos. </li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public. </li></ul> <p>Other Duties as Assigned - 10%</p> <ul> <li>Must be available to respond to and work extraordinary hours during emergency events. </li><li>Assist with snow and other inclement weather operations. </li></ul> <p>Required for All Jobs</p> <ul> <li>Performs other duties as assigned </li><li>Complies with all policies and standards </li><li>- </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <p>Required Education</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED </li></ul> <p>Required Experience</p> <ul> <li>Two years' experience as an equipment operator with working knowledge of tools and light and heavy equipment necessary for maintenance activities used in servicing county roads. </li></ul> <p>Licenses and Certifications</p> <ul> <li>Valid Colorado Class A CDL license with tanker endorsement required or ability to obtain license within specified time frame agreed upon hire. </li><li>Ability to be MSHA certified. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Must have working knowledge of road and bridge construction with demonstrated proficiency in two of the following areas: tracked hydraulic excavator, bulldozer, front end loader, scraper, tandem axle truck, asphalt paver, backhoe (smaller than a John Deere 510), compaction equipment, skid steer, and motor grader. </li><li>Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records. </li><li>Must effectively present information in one-on-one situation with the public, subordinates, and supervisors. </li><li>Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10's and 100's. Perform these operations using units of money, weight, measurement, volume and distance. </li><li>Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and make appropriate day to day decisions without supervisory guidance to perform assigned tasks. </li><li>Must be able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. </li><li>Candidate must pass a background check prior to employment start date. </li><li>Candidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date. </li><li>This position will participate in random substance use screening. </li><li>Candidate must pass a physical demands evaluation post offer screen compatible to this position. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee will occasionally climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, carry, or reach overhead. Employee will regularly perform the following: reach angularly, wrist flexion/extension, elbow flexion/extension, supination/pronation, and grasp. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.</p> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to hazards, temperature change, fumes and airborne particles and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and cold temperatures.
