<p>The Judicial Clerk is a non-civil service position that is located within Juvenile Court and performs legal research and various administrative tasks requiring analysis and independent reasoning for a Judge. Performs related duties as required. </p> <p>Davidson County Juvenile Court's mission is to prevent problems, promote the positive potential in all people, and pursue fairness and hope.</p> <ul> <li>Assists Judge in preparing legal arguments or preparation for cases. </li><li>Writes petitions for court appeals. </li><li>Researches law and files for motions. </li><li>Reviews and analyzes available precedents relevant to cases. </li><li>May assist with interviewing clients, witnesses, or other parties associated with pending litigation. </li><li>Conducts research for the preparation of legal opinions on matters of interest to the Judge. </li><li>Performs substantive legal analysis or requests for information under the provisions of various acts. </li><li>Performs administrative duties. </li><li>May assist with maintenance of a legal library. </li><li>Assembles data and prepares reports, using word processing packages, databases, and/or spreadsheets as needed. </li><li>Gathers, sorts, classifies, and interprets various data. </li><li>Compiles and maintains legal related data. </li><li>Delivers briefs to clerks and attorneys as necessary. </li><li>Keeps document file and correspondence of cases. </li><li>Works with, mentors, and supports court interns. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE</p> <p>Current graduate of law school waiting to take the Bar Examination, or awaiting the results of the Bar Examination.</p> <p>Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.</p> <p>Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of the fundamentals of criminal, juvenile, and/or civic law and litigation procedures </li><li>Knowledge of the fundamentals and terminology of the Tennessee Court structure and the legal system of the United States </li><li>Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methods of legal research and analysis </li><li>Ability to prepare legal briefs and summaries of analyses </li></ul> <p>We are an equal opportunity employer.
