Must be able to work weekends and holidays.</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>The Gulf Beach Lifeguard participates in beach rescue operations on the Gulf and McGee beaches and responds to any medical emergency through dispatch calls from drowning to trauma with injuries. The objective of this position is to keep beach goers safe through preventive response actions while on the beach and swimming in the gulf waters.</p> <p>Responsibilities and Duties</p> <ul> <li>Respond to emergency calls to include swimmers in distress, drowning, recovery, major medical calls, major trauma and minor injuries. </li><li>Requires constant surveying of the water and providing public safety. </li><li>Ensure that all beach rescue equipment and fleet remain in top working condition and cleaned. </li><li>Remain current with all required training and development and be physically ready to respond to emergencies at all times. </li><li>Assist with special events by providing water safety, first aid, traffic control and supplies. </li><li>Will be required to operate jet skis and trucks with emergency response lights and sirens. </li><li>May be asked to perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Certification, Licenses or Other Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must be able to successfully perform an open water rescue </li><li>CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications must be obtained within six (6) weeks from date of hire from our agency </li><li>Must be able to swim 500 meters (550) yards over a measured course in ten minutes or less </li><li>Must successfully complete USLA (United States Lifesaving Association) training within six weeks of hire </li><li>Must be able to pass a test of strength and stamina to perform the rigorous physical duties of an open water lifeguard </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Less than High School or equivalency </li><li>No prior experience required </li><li>Class C Drivers License </li></ul> <p>Other Information:</p> <p>Basis of Rating</p> <p>Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.</p> <p>Closing Statement</p> <ul> <li>Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test. </li><li>Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi. </li><li>In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services. </li><li>This position is classified as "Safety Sensitive".
