<p>Position Type:</p> <p>High School Teaching/Family/Consumer Science Teacher</p> <p>Date Posted:</p> <p>8/18/2025</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>New London High School Multi Magnet Campus</p> <p>  Additional Information: Show/Hide</p> <p>JOB GOAL: To help students learn culinary subject matter and practical skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible citizens prepared for postsecondary education and careers in the culinary and hospitality industries.</p> <p>TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li>Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with district and state CTE culinary curriculum standards </li><li>Teach students culinary foundations including food preparation, kitchen safety and sanitation, nutrition, and customer service </li><li>Maintain a clean, organized, and fully functional kitchen classroom </li><li>Manage and supervise students in lab settings to ensure safety and skill development </li><li>Organize and support student participation in culinary competitions and events </li><li>Provide students with opportunities for work-based learning experiences (e.g., school café, catering projects, job shadowing) </li><li>Assess and document student progress regularly </li><li>Collaborate with colleagues, advisory committees, and local industry partners to enhance program relevance </li><li>Maintain necessary records for student achievement, safety compliance, and program evaluation </li><li>Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and parent conferences as required </li></ul> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Valid State Teaching Certification </li><li>Culinary industry experience preferred </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of food safety, nutrition, menu planning, and culinary techniques </li><li>Ability to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment </li><li>Strong communication and organizational skills </li><li>Ability to integrate academic skills into hands-on culinary instruction </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within first semester </li><li>Experience with student-run culinary operations or school-based enterprises </li><li>Familiarity with SkillsUSA or other CTE student organizations </li></ul> <p>SALARY: as determined by professional experience and NLEA Contract.</p> <p>New London Public School District is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.</p> <p>Candidates from diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.</p>
