<p>Job Summary</p> <p>Harris-Stowe State University (HSSU) invites nominations and applications for the inaugural Director of Assessment. The Director will join HSSU at a critical moment as the University embarks on an exciting and expansive effort to raise its profile by strengthening academic excellence, enhancing student success, and expanding partnerships and community engagement within the city of St. Louis, the state of Missouri, and the Region. The Director will join a vibrant and engaged HSSU community and strategically work to leverage HSSU's existing assets for the benefit of students, faculty, staff, and the University at large.</p> <p>Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director will be charged with supporting degree programs, co-curricular and administrative units within designated colleges and assisting faculty and staff in using assessment results to improve student learning and program effectiveness. The Director will collaborate with stakeholders in identifying outcomes and developing assessment instruments, managing assessments, coordinating data collection and analysis, summarizing assessment findings, and assisting in the development of assessment and accreditation reports. The ideal candidate will be a talented and experienced administrator with strategic leadership ability, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, administrative acumen, and a passion for the unique mission of Harris-Stowe State University.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Works closely with the Provost to formulate and implement the objectives of the Director of Assessment, within the context of the mission and objectives of the University. </li><li>Develops and establishes operating goals, policies, and procedures for the assessment office, as appropriate; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency. </li><li>Supports continuous academic program assessment (curricular and co-curricular activities) and improvement of student learning through consultation, mentoring and professional development. </li><li>Participates in the development, organization, analysis and reporting of student learning outcomes and related activities to support academic and University planning activities. </li><li>Promotes internal and external communication of assessment results. </li><li>Supports the ongoing development and implementation of comprehensive assessment programs for all academic and administrative units in alignment with the University's Strategic Plan. </li><li>Participates in the collection and analysis of various assessment data to support accreditation and program reviews, including dissemination of results and makes data-informed decisions. </li><li>Interprets assessment findings and prepares an Office of Academic Affairs Annual Assessment Report to summarize findings, with particular emphasis on the quality of the assessment efforts and findings that influence institutional decision-making and policy development. </li><li>Maintains documentation needed for national, regional, and discipline-specific accreditation. </li><li>Leads and supervises personnel, to include work allocation, training, and problem resolution; provides performance management feedback as appropriate. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Education and Experience Requirements</p> <ul> <li>An earned master's degree from a regionally accredited institution preferred; </li><li>Minimum of three-five (3-5) years of experience directly related to the essential functions specified; </li><li>Expertise in assessment, data analysis, and educational outcomes; </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse members of the University's community including students, faculty, staff, and administrators; </li><li>Ability to synthesize and analyze qualitative and quantitative data and effectively prepare and present reports; </li><li>An understanding of accreditation standards, practices, and goals and experience in preparing reports for accreditation bodies; </li><li>Experience in strategic planning, program development and accreditation, including outcomes assessment; </li><li>Ability to effectively manage multiple projects; </li><li>Ability to recruit and retain a diverse faculty and staff and a demonstrated commitment to their professional growth and development; </li><li>A demonstrated record of sound fiscal and resource management. </li></ul> <p>Other Skills and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>A high level of integrity, trust, and resourcefulness; </li><li>Experience connecting with the surrounding community and leveraging opportunities of the region, including building relationships with local businesses and other higher education institutions; </li><li>Experience in a unionized environment; </li><li>Experience serving students from underrepresented communities. </li></ul> <p>Physical Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle </li><li>Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human bod </li><li>Light work usually requires walking or standing to a signification degree </li><li>Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment at HSS </li><li>Very limited or no exposure to physical risk </li></ul> <p>"Please No Phone Calls"</p> <p>Due to the large number of applications submitted and the high volume of applicant inquiries we receive regarding the status of applications, we are unable to accept phone calls or walk-in inquiries regarding applicant status.
