<p>Definition</p> <p>Under general supervision, is responsible for obtaining and identifying fingerprints; performs related duties as required.</p> <p>Examples of Work</p> <p>(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)</p> <ul> <li>Identifies persons for law enforcement purposes by obtaining and comparing fingerprints, photographs, and computer information; </li><li>Obtains inked ten print and palm cards; scans fingerprints and palm prints into live database; </li><li>Collects DNA specimens in accordance with applicable collection and handling procedures; </li><li>Verifies fingerprints and enters fingerprints into automated database along with pertinent information such as case identification number, race, sex, and birth date; </li><li>Reads fingerprint classifications and compares to ink or scanned ten prints; </li><li>Photographs prisoners/suspects and enters into automated mug shot system; </li><li>Questions prisoners/suspects regarding any tattoos, marks, or scars; informs applicable Police unit if tattoo is gang-related; may photograph gang-related tattoos; </li><li>Obtains criminal histories for Police personnel using LEADS software; </li><li>Maintains records/files of known finger and palm prints; </li><li>Files identification information; </li><li>Operates various computer terminals in order to transmit and retrieve information, create and update files, and conduct file searches; </li><li>Delivers and receives documents between the CPD Identification Unit and the Franklin County Identification Bureau; </li><li>May search holding areas and processing rooms for contraband left by detainees; </li><li>May testify in court as an expert witness; </li><li>May communicate with individuals who have limited English language skills; </li><li>May be required to stand for extended periods of time in order to obtain fingerprints. </li><li>May be required to stand for extended periods of time in order to obtain fingerprints. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Completion of the twelfth school grade. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of a high school diploma.</p> <p>Possession of LEADS/BCI certification by the end of the probationary period.</p> <p>Possession of a valid driver's license may be required for some positions.</p> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <p>Some knowledge of fingerprints; skill to accurately and efficiently enter data into a computer; skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations; ability to use a computer and relevant software; ability to copy numbers and letters accurately; ability to obtain, compare, and match fingerprints; ability to read and comprehend memoranda and textbooks; ability to speak about fingerprints verbally to coworkers, making oneself understood; ability to file records according to an alphanumeric system; ability to maintain composure while interacting with persons who are potentially hostile or violent; ability to interact and communicate with persons with limited English language skills; ability to stand for extended periods of time.</p> <p>Test/Job Contact Information</p> <p>COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION ANNOUNCEMENT: The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be MERGED, according to score, with the names of applicants on the current eligible list. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439.</p> <p>The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Reading Comprehension, Information Ordering, Fingerprint Comparison, name/number comparison, data entry, and Microsoft 2016/2019 Outlook and Word.</p> <p>Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.</p> <p>All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years.</p> <p>The Division of Police within the Department of Public Safety is hiring multiple Police Records Technicians for full-time positions. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for maintaining a complex system of police records and performing related duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES. Considerable knowledge of filing systems including systems developed on a subject-matter coding basis; general knowledge of standard office and administrative procedures and methods; general knowledge of standard research practices and methods; general knowledge of English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation; skill to type twenty-five (25) words per minute; skill in basic word processing; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to perform basic mathematical computations quickly and accurately; ability to match names and numbers quickly and accurately; ability to maintain highly confidential information with integrity and discretion; ability to comprehend principles and apply them to established procedures; ability to operate a computer and associated software; ability to deal effectively with the public; ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships; ability to identify problems and seek appropriate guidance; ability to gather, sort, and classify information. DESCRIPTION/LISTING/ESTIMATED DURATION OF THE SELECTION PROCESS All applications for this position will be forwarded to the department indicated above. For any position within the Division of Police, the hiring process will also include the completion of an extensive personal history questionnaire and a polygraph examination.
