<p>Job Title: School Nurse</p> <p>Reports to: Principal</p> <p>Welcome to Lawrence Public Schools</p> <p>Lawrence Public Schools is committed to ensuring that ALL students successfully master the content and skills necessary to graduate from high school, college, and/or career ready. These efforts are monitored and assessed regularly to ensure accountability to all stakeholders.</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The School Nurse provides professional health services and coordinates resources from the school, home, and community to support the health and well-being of students and staff. The nurse plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and healthy school environment while also contributing to the academic success of all students by addressing their physical and mental health needs.</p> <p>Essential Duties & Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Assess and evaluate student health and determine how health concerns may impact learning </li><li>Provide direct care, first aid, and emergency response for students and staff </li><li>Counsel students, families, and school personnel regarding health concerns </li><li>Lead efforts to identify and support students whose health needs interfere with learning </li><li>Develop and implement disease prevention and control programs </li><li>Coordinate services with school-based and community healthcare providers </li><li>Monitor school facilities and recommend changes to promote health and safety </li><li>Address common health and social issues such as child abuse, substance use, nutrition concerns, and teen pregnancy </li><li>Conduct and follow up on mandated health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis) </li><li>Maintain accurate health records and documentation of all care provided </li><li>Administer medications in accordance with school policy and physician orders </li><li>Support special education evaluations with health assessments and participation in team meetings </li><li>Ensure immunization compliance and recommend exclusions for noncompliance </li><li>Monitor communicable diseases and oversee return-to-school procedures </li><li>Maintain and manage first aid supplies and health office equipment </li><li>Serve as a resource to students, families, and school personnel </li><li>Perform other nursing duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Strong clinical assessment and nursing skills </li><li>Knowledge of pediatric and adolescent health concerns </li><li>Ability to counsel and communicate effectively with students and families </li><li>Familiarity with public health principles and school health regulations </li><li>Proficiency in documentation and use of health record systems </li><li>Ability to work collaboratively with educators, administrators, and healthcare providers </li><li>Cultural competency and ability to serve diverse populations </li><li>Strong organizational and time management skills </li><li>Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics </li></ul> <p>Qualifications & Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Graduate of a professional nursing program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing </li><li>Current license as a registered professional nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts </li><li>One to three years of experience in pediatrics, community health, or a related field </li><li>Bachelor's degree in Nursing </li><li>Eligibility for certification in School Nursing by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education </li><li>CPR and First Aid certification preferred </li></ul> <p>Equal Opportunity Employer</p> <p>Lawrence Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive environment for employees and applicants.
