We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.</p> <p>Job Summary</p> <p>The Outpatient Psychiatry Department at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide joint clinical services in the MGH Primary Care Psychiatry practice and Urgent Care Clinic.</p> <p>MGH Primary Care Psychiatry (PCP) is a general psychiatry outpatient clinic serving the mental health needs of patients affiliated with MGH and consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, NPs and training NPs, social workers, a medical assistant and a nurse. The Psychiatric NP will independently perform diagnostic evaluations and provide longitudinal medication management. Part time-time positions are available. MGH Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) provides prompt access to those with urgent psychiatric symptoms in the form of diagnostic evaluations, medication management. The multi-disciplinary approach supports effective stabilization and facilitates a seamless transition to long-term care. Priority is given to those individuals recently served in the emergency department or inpatient. The incumbent will receive general supervision from the Medical Director of the UCC or another supervising MD and the NP Lead. The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>This position is a Psychiatric NP and focuses on providing care to patients with mental health disorders.</p> <p>PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>General Expectations</p> <ul> <li>Independently assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in PCP or UCC. </li><li>Demonstrates critical thinking, diagnostic reasoning skills and strong clinical skills. </li><li>Works independently within their scope of practice. </li></ul> <p>Clinical Practice</p> <ul> <li>Independently takes patient history, performs thorough diagnostic evaluation and formulates a treatment plan </li><li>Provides medication treatment. Candidates should have comfort treating depression, anxiety, psychosis, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and mild substance use. </li><li>Utilizes advanced practice knowledge to identify, prevent or solve complex and/or recurring patient care problems. </li><li>Consults supervising physician when needed. </li><li>Collaborates with office staff to coordinate resources. </li><li>Writes orders which are in accord with current clinical and hospital guidelines and policies. </li><li>Maintains and practices in accord with Psych NP guidelines per state and hospital regulations. </li><li>Determines level of care needs for patients and initiates referrals, transfers, and consultations as needed </li><li>Covers own patients via pager including afterhours </li></ul> <p>Administrative/Business/Professional Leadership</p> <ul> <li>Monitors progress and evaluates the outcomes of their clinical practice. </li><li>Suggests and facilitates initiatives that may have a department or hospital-wide impact on patient care. </li><li>Serves as a role model to reflect commitment to the philosophy and vision of the MGH, and the Departments of Psychiatry and Nursing. </li></ul> <p>Education</p> <ul> <li>In collaboration with physician and nursing leadership, applies evidence-based research findings and experiential knowledge to support and advance clinical practice by all disciplines in the care of this patient population. </li><li>Participates in the activities that contribute to the education of health care professionals, including presenting and publishing. </li><li>Facilitates the educational experience of trainees in working with this patient population. </li></ul> <p>Professional Development</p> <ul> <li>Engages in self-performance appraisal on an annual basis, identifying areas of strength as well as areas for professional and practice development. </li><li>Identifies individual learning needs and goals and develops a plan to meet them. </li><li>Maintains clinical knowledge and skills based upon current nursing and health care practices. </li><li>Maintains membership in professional nursing organizations. </li><li>Maintains the standards and educational requirements specific to the nurse practitioner role and licensure. </li><li>Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research. </li></ul> <p>LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS & REGISTRATIONS</p> <ul> <li>Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner - Adult Psychiatric Mental Health in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts </li><li>Current federal and state-controlled substance certification/registration. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION:</p> <ul> <li>Master's in Nursing Required - Adult Psychiatric Mental Health </li></ul> <p>EXPERIENCE:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of 2 years advanced practice experience preferred in adult mental health. </li><li>Previous nursing experience required </li></ul> <p>SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to complete comprehensive psychopharmacologic evaluations and formulate treatment plan independently </li><li>Ability to provide longitudinal medication treatment in a general outpatient psychiatry setting to a diverse array of adult patients across the adult life span. </li><li>Ability to provide rapid access assessment and stabilization in an urgent care setting. </li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills </li><li>Compassion and patience </li><li>Ability to adhere to standard documentation to timeliness standards. </li><li>Excellent organizational skills </li><li>Experience with Epic strongly preferred </li><li>Outpatient psych NP experience strongly preferred </li></ul> <p>Additional Job Details (if applicable)</p> <p>WORKING CONDITIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Within PCP: Provision of longitudinal care to adult patients (including geriatric and those with substance use disorder) in the outpatient psychiatry clinic located in the Wang building and via telehealth platforms. </li><li>Within UCC: Provision of rapid access care to adult patients in the urgent care clinic located in the Wang building and via telehealth platforms </li></ul> <p>Remote Type</p> <p>Onsite</p> <p>Work Location</p> <p>15 Parkman Street</p> <p>Scheduled Weekly Hours</p> <p>40</p> <p>Employee Type</p> <p>Regular</p> <p>Work Shift</p> <p>Day (United States of America)</p> <p>EEO Statement:</p> <p>The General Hospital Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
