<p>NATURE OF WORK</p> <p>The IT Technician is responsible for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware and software systems, providing technical support to end-users, and ensuring the smooth operation of computer systems, networks, and applications.</p> <p>The main responsibility of this position is to work closely with employees across various departments, assisting them with hardware and software issues, setting up new devices, and maintaining security protocols within the towns covered under South Windsor's technology services agreements, including Coventry, Tolland, and Andover. Remainder of the time will be spent in South Windsor supporting town IT staff. The technician will report to the lead technician assigned to each agency as well as the CIO. This is a contracted position with generous benefits, excluding health coverage, evaluated for renewal every 3 years. 37.5 hours per week. $23.11 per hour.</p> <p>EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <p>Provide technical support to end-users, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.</p> <p>Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, and other IT equipment.</p> <p>Assist with network troubleshooting, including routers, switches, and Wi-Fi configurations.</p> <p>Manage user accounts, passwords, and access controls within Active Directory or other directory services.</p> <p>Support IT security measures by ensuring systems are up to date with patches and antivirus software.</p> <p>Resolving support tickets in a timely manner, communicating solutions clearly to staff, and escalating tickets when needed.</p> <p>Document troubleshooting steps, technical procedures, and system configurations.</p> <p>Assist with setting up and maintaining IT infrastructure, including servers and cloud-based applications.</p> <p>Provide training and guidance to employees on basic IT procedures and best practices.</p> <p>Collaborate with senior IT staff to implement technology solutions and improvements.</p> <p>Perform routine system maintenance, backups, and updates to ensure optimal performance.</p> <p>Assist with the planning, design, research and acquisition of new or upgraded hardware and software systems; maintains current knowledge of hardware, software and network technology and recommends modifications as necessary.</p> <p>Assists with the creation and maintenance of annual budget, capital projects recommendations, and technology replacement plan.</p> <p>Records and broadcasts public meetings.</p> <p>Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.</p> <p>OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS</p> <p>Performs related work as required.</p> <p>One theme of this Total Quality Management organization is teamwork both within departments and among departments to maximize quality service delivery to the citizens of the towns served. Personnel are encouraged and expected to perform work not definitively described in their job descriptions. Recognition of individual performance beyond one's job description is a function of the Town's employee recognition programs and/or incentive pay plan.</p>
