<p>The Flight Line Technician will provide personalized customer service to students, staff, faculty, and visitors. The Flight Line Technician will provide safe and accurate movement of people, aircraft, vehicles, and equipment throughout the airfield and surrounding areas as well as a variety of aircraft services including marshaling, fueling, hangar storage, towing, parking, and storing aircraft, and other ground support such as tugs and transport vehicles. Handling of aviation fuels, operating fuel trucks, and other support vehicles such as tugs and transport vehicles. Required to maintain applicable records and quality control. In addition, coordinate and direct ramp movements for arriving and departing aircraft, as well as greet and organize arriving and departing aircraft from ramp and hangar facilities. At times, will assist with the upkeep of hangars and ramp, including snow removal, removing FOD (foreign object damage), etc.</p> <p>This position has three levels: Tech I-III. All new hires begin as a Tech I. Eligibility to advance to the next level is a minimum of six months from the hire date or the last advancement. Each advancement includes a salary increase.</p> <ul> <li> <p>Direct Aircraft Responsible for guiding, towing, parking, greeting and organizing aircraft that is arriving or departing from UVU's ramp. Tow planes to appropriate flight areas and hangars. Operate ground service equipment such as tugs, fuel trucks and transport vehicles. Must know how to direct pilots using appropriate aviation hand signals.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintenance and Fuel Monitors fuel levels and maintains fuel inventories to make sure aircraft have the right amount of fuel for each flight. Ensuring fuel trucks are stocked and prepared to distribute fuel, checking the plane's oil level, performing quality control checks to make sure fueling is handled safely and efficiently and reporting any visible damage to aircraft. Line technicians also perform light maintenance, such as making sure internal and external aircraft lights are turned off.</p> </li><li> <p>Hangars and Ramp Help with the upkeep of hangars and UVU ramp area. Technicians also maintain aircraft hangars so planes can be parked or stored. During inclement weather, line technicians help maintain walkways and ramp so staff and students have a safe route to and from aircraft and they help de-ice aircraft. They must immediately report suspicious activity to security.</p> </li><li> <p>Customer Service Help with customer service needs. For example, give staff and students directions, interact with dispatchers, converse with pilots and students who are entering or exiting the ramp.</p> </li><li> <p>Perform other job related duties as assigned.</p> </li></ul> <p>Graduation with a high school diploma, or equivalent, and one year of related experience; OR any combination of job-related experience and education totaling one year. May require additional certifications.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Education and experience totaling two years.</p> <p>Licenses or Certifications</p> <p>Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license and pass the university's Defensive Driving Course while employed. </p> <p>Knowledge</p> <ul> <li> <p>Knowledge of basic maintenance.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of hand tool operation and safety procedures.</p> </li></ul> <p>Skills</p> <ul> <li> <p>Skills in computers and computer applications.</p> </li><li> <p>Interpersonal human relations, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Basic skills with hardware, tools, and mechanical dexterity.</p> </li><li> <p>High level of awareness and attention to detail skills.</p> </li></ul> <p>Abilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to work under high stress situations and in hazardous environments.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to withstand exposure to weather extremes and potentially adverse tarmac conditions.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to adhere to the dress code to include proper safety clothing and winter wear.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to lift 30 lbs and manually manipulate aircraft in aircraft hangars.</p> </li></ul>
