<p>Overview</p> <p>This is a full time position for a Medical Assistant in the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, responsible for front and back office as well as assisting Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Nursing staff with examination and performing Urodynamic Testing of patients.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li> <p>Perform Urodynamic Testing on patients. Skilled at placing urethral catheters.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares charts for the next day; reviewing records from previous visits or new patient referrals, obtaining records from hospital or other inpatient/outpatient facilities, laboratory facilities to ensure the provider has all pertinent information at the time of the patient visit.</p> </li><li> <p>Obtains insurance carrier prior authorization for patient medications when needed.</p> </li><li> <p>Checks-in and checks-out patients, obtains and writes referrals, when appropriately trained and directed, and schedules outside appointments with specialists.</p> </li><li> <p>PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES.</p> </li></ul> <p>OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES</p> <ul> <li>Give directions to patients and visitors. </li><li>Handles pick-up and drop off medications. </li><li>Phone triage. </li><li>Takes vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN, collect and process urine samples. </li><li>Chaperons when appropriate and assist the providers during certain minor surgeries and diagnostic procedures, such as Pap Smears. </li><li>Maintains clean, well-equipped examination rooms; cleans and sterilizes instruments. </li><li>Stocks examination rooms and triage area with medical supplies. Inventories and reorders supplies. </li><li>Document all information in EMR. </li><li>Prepare education packets. </li><li>Transport patients to hospital/ED when necessary </li><li>Check EMR tasks daily </li><li>Review patient lab results, discuss abnormal findings with the physician and follow up with patient regarding treatment as necessary </li><li>Perform other duties, as assigned, according to the individual departmental needs. </li><li>Travel between locations is required when needed. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>EDUCATION: Completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification (RMA or CMA). Completion of BLS class and re-certify every 2 years.</p> <p>KNOWLEGDE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Customer service-oriented individual is required. Must have some working knowledge of computers.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE: Experience with urology and/or gynecology is preferred. Experience in a fast paced, large, multi-specialty group is preferred.</p> <p>Location : Location</p> <p>US-VA-Norfolk</p>
