The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.</p> <p>Why We Do This Work:</p> <p>The Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 has set an ambitious agenda for change, guided by the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels and academic gaps can and will be eliminated with the support of teachers who deliver engaging, relevant, and academically rigorous instruction that excites students and instills a love of learning in them.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>The Assistive Technology Specialist will work collaboratively on the district's Assistive Technology Team and will be responsible for the review and recommendation of Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) devices as well as Assistive Technology (AT) training to staff. This itinerant position will ensure that students throughout the district with disabilities are provided the tools that they need to communicate and access their curriculum. The position reports to the OT/PT/AT Department Specialist and the Speech Department Specialist jointly. The position is evaluated by the Speech Department Specialist.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Travel throughout the district to all of the school buildings to perform job functions.</p> </li><li> <p>Complete required documentation within designated timelines.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist with the development of a student's IEP in regards to required AAC/AT.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate in IEP or problem solving meetings as appropriate or based on need.</p> </li><li> <p>Support & collaborate with staff/students to implement AAC/AT devices at the school & district levels.</p> </li><li> <p>Review and utilize data from AAC/AT usage to make appropriate recommendations for students and staff regarding both device selection and implementation.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide small and large group training for school staff, parents, students, and administrators on AAC/AT hardware and software.</p> </li><li> <p>Research AAC/AT best practices, communication devices, software applications, vendors, etc. to become a knowledgeable resource on assistive technology devices and services.</p> </li><li> <p>Communicate with parents, case managers, teachers and school administration regarding a student's AAC/AT needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Monitor and assist with the transfer of AAC/AT hardware and software within the district.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide inventory management support for AAC/AT hardware and software.</p> </li><li> <p>Utilize calendar for scheduling of meetings and documentation of activities</p> </li><li> <p>Other duties as determined necessary to support the Assistive Technology Department.</p> </li><li> <p>Follows and implements the written processes for AAC/AT determination</p> </li><li> <p>Attend all Speech Department professional development opportunities</p> </li><li> <p>Attend all Speech Departmental meetings</p> </li></ul> <p>Note: The above statements are intended to describe the essential functions and related requirements of persons assigned to this job. Master Degree and ASHA certification are required. License through Illinois Department of Financial and Public Regulations in Speech Language Pathology.
